Frankfort Wildcats Pounce On Pair of Wins Over Wetmore

Twin Valley League action rolled the basketball season on for Frankfort and Wetmore on Friday as the Wildcats hosted the Cardinals. At the end of the night Frankfort had pounced on a pair of wins at home as the girls won 54-31 and the boys took a 66-43 victory. 

Early the lead changed hand multiple times in the first quarter between the girl’s squads and Frankfort held an 11-10 lead after one quarter. That lead grew in the second quarter expanding to high as nine and with a 13-6 frame Frankfort carried a 24-16 lead into halftime versus Wetmore. Wildcats expanded the lead to double figures in the third and held Wetmore down for a while in the third to push their lead out tremendously and behind seven point quarter from Kennan Brandt and 18-7 quarter overall Frankfort had firm control lead 42-23 and went on to snatch up the win 54-31. 

Emilee Ebert paced Frankfort on the night with a game-high 19 points, netting 11 in the second half, while Brandt finished one shy of her season high scoring 15 points and earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. The win moved Frankfort to 13-7 on the season and gave them their fourth win in a row, while improving them to 8-4 in the TVL. 

Wetmore with the loss fell to .500 on the year at 9-9 and just 3-7 in the TVL as Jill Henry led the team with 15 points going 7-9 from the charity stripe in the game. 

Wetmore boys came out strong early going up 8-2 but Frankfort responded with an 11-2 run to end the first quarter and led 13-10 as Adam Kenworthy finished the quarter with a layup and one, three-point play for Frankfort. Kenworthy kept his team in the game early netting 11 of the team’s first 13 points. The scoring spread out in the second by Frankfort and they pushed out to an eight-point lead only to see Wetmore put together a 5-0 run and make it 20-17. Wildcats had an answer to the Wetmore run by closing out the first half with a 10-0 run of their own coming over the final couple of minutes of the second quarter and led 30-17 at the half. Both teams traded runs and buckets in the third and Frankfort closed out the contest with a 21-12 fourth to secure a 66-43 win. 

Kenworthy got the ball rolling early for Frankfort finishing with 22 points on the night while going 6-8 from the line and earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Jedd Rose chipped in 15 points netting 11 points in the fourth quarter, while Mitchell Olson contributed 13 points. The win moves Frankfort to 8-11 on the year and 5-7 in the TVL. 

Wetmore with the loss fell to 1-16 on the season and 1-9 in the TVL as Ethan Osterhaus led the team with 12 points, while Kyle Bloom scored 11 points. 

Both teams are back in action Tuesday, February 21st as Wetmore will host Troy and Frankfort will wrap up their regular season at home against Rossville.
