Holton Qualifies Six Wrestlers for State at 4A Regionals While Jeff West & Atchison Grapplers Also Qualify

Spots at the State tournament were up for grabs at Regional wrestling over the weekend and in Class 4A three area schools competed at the Regional hosted by Santa Fe Trail and Holton, Jeff West and Atchison all qualified at least one wrestler for the State tournament. 

The Holton Wildcats the best showing of the area teams as six Wildcat wrestlers notched Top four finishes at Regionals to qualify for the 4A state tournament helping the team take fourth at Regionals out of 15 teams. Tyler Price who has been ranked in 4A at 170lbs all year by the KWCA led Holton at Regionals as he captured the Regional title by going 3-0 on the day. Price after a first round bye notched a pinfall win in 2:37 in the Quarterfinals, then won by pin in 2:33 in the Semifinals and won in his Championship bout by pinfall in 3:37. A trio of Wildcats earned second place finishes at Regionals as Cameron Smith (106lbs), Kolby Roush (120lbs) and Tel Wittmer (220lbs) posted 2-1, 3-1 and 2-1 records to take second. Smith recorded his two wins via pinfall, while Roush had three wins on the day with 6-0 decision, a pinfall and technical fall win and Wittmer won by a 3-2 decision and pinfall on the mats. A third place finish was garnered by Kyler Tannahill at 285lbs as he went 3-1 to qaulify for state, while Taygen Fletcher heads to State for Holton after a going 2-2 and taking fourth at 113lbs.

Jeff West Tigers are sending a pair of grapplers to the State tournament as Chase Montgomery anad Joel Scott had Top four finishes at Regionals. Montogmery recorded a 4-1 day on the mats at 182lbs to take third place and a 2-2 day on the mats earned Scott fourth placed at 126lbs. 

A fourth place finish after a 3-2 performance on the mats at Regional at 160lbs will send Collin Moranz of Atchison to the 4A State tournament. 

The nine area wrestlers who qualified for State are now set to compete at the 4A State tournament on February 24th and 25th in Salina at the Bicentennial Center.
