The Marysville girls avenged a 59-48 loss to Horton earlier this year by beating the Chargers 50-20 on Monday night in the opening round of Class 3A Sub State.  The #6 seed Lady Bulldogs played without leading scorer Sydney Pacha (illness), but held Horton without a field goal in either the second or third quarter to pull away for the upset victory and advance to the semifinals at Sabetha this Thursday.

Marysville jumped to a 7-0 lead and Horton didn't get a point until 4:15 in the opening quarter.  Trailing 13-3, #3 seeded Chargers got three straight treys from Kaitlyn McAfee to make it 13-12, but Horton didn't make another basket until the fourth period.  Horton had 18 turnovers and made just seven total shots in their lowest scoring game of the season before ending the campaign with a 12-9 record.

Leading 26-13 at halftime, Marysville scored the first 12 points of the third quarter and won the quarter 19-2 to force a running clock in the final stanza of the game.  Nicole Franco had 13 points while Macy Larson chipped in 10 and Kali Crome added 8 as Marysville won their third straight game to improve to 10-11 on the season. Nine players scored for the Bulldogs and  they made 15 of 28 free throws while Horton made only three of six.

The Bulldogs will face #2 seed Hiawatha, who was a 51-40 victor against ACCHS.  Top seed Nemaha Central advanced with a 57-29 win against Riverside while #5 seed Sabetha knocked off MH-MA in Atchison 41-40 to set up Thursday nights semifinals.

Girls Sub-State games Thursday in Sabetha will be broadcasted on KNZA 103.9 FM.
