24 Northeast Kansas Area Basketball Players Selected All-State By KBCA

In a year that saw 10 area teams make the State basketball tournaments and three State titles, a State runner-up, third place and two fourth place finishes were earned there were plenty of great performances. The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association has announced their All-State basketball honors and 24 area athletes earned honors from Class 4A-Division II down to 1A-Division II. 

After helping the Jeff West lady Tigers go 20-5 on the season and finish Class 4A-DII State runner-up four lady Tigers have earned KBCA All-State honors. Junior, Mariah Murdie and senior, Faith Becker each picked up second team All-State honors, while senior, Taylor Metzger and junior, Alyssa Garza each earned honorable mention honors. Jeff West Tiger senior, Nick Malloy was the only area boy’s athlete in 4A-DII to earn All-State honors getting the nod for honorable mention. 

Class 3A saw Marysville boys claim the State title for the first time since 2003 and Nemaha Central girls take fourth at State posting records of 22-4 and 21-5, respectively. Marysville junior, Gabe Pieschl was named first team All-State by the KBCA, while Nemaha Central junior, Laura Macke also earned first team All-State 3A honors and her teammate senior, Kaley Dalinghaus earned honorable mention honors. Also Nemaha Central Thunder junior, Mitchell Henry snagged second team All-State honors from the KBCA in Class 3A. 

Valley Falls highlighted Class 2A for the area finishing fourth at State after qualifying for State for the third straight year posting a 21-5 record on the year. Dragon sophomore, Raegan Kirkwood picked up first team All-State honors from the KBCA while three other gals earned honors, too. Washington County senior, Tess Cecrle along with Valley Heights junior, Kayla Smith and Jefferson County North freshman, Josie Weishaar all earned honorable mention honors. On the boy’s side in Class 2A Jackson Heights Cobra senior, Wyatt Olberding earned first team All-State while Troy Trojan senior, Cuttar Huss earned second team honors. 

Seven area athletes earned All-State honors from the KBCA in Class 1A-DI with five coming on the girl’s side. Hanover girls finished the year 24-2 and claimed the 1A-DI State title for the first time in school history and sophomore, Macy Doebele along with senior, Ashton Jueneman earned All-State honors getting the first and second team nod, respectively. A pair of Centralia lady Panthers also earned All-State honors after helping the Panthers take third at State as senior, Cassisy Haufler and junior, Katie Glatczak were named first and second team, respectively. Frankfort sophomore, Emilee Ebert also snagged honorable mention 1A-DI All-State honors from the KBCA. Hanover boys also claimed the 1A-DI State title like the girls but it was their sixth in school history and seniors, Will Bruna and Michael Jueneman each earned first team All-State from the KBCA. 

In Class 1A-DII two area gals earned All-State honors as Wetmore Cardinal senior, Dakota McQueen picked up second team honors after helping her team to State. While Axtell senior, Anna Buessing got the nod for honorable mention All-State honors.
