While Mother Nature has been postponing and cancelling several high school sporting events in Northeast Kansas all week the track season did get underway for a pair of area teams as part of the Silver Lake Invitational. Nemaha Central and Marysville opened their track seasons on Thursday at Silver Lake and for the Thunder it was strong start to the year.

The Nemaha Central lady Thunder took home first place as a team out of nine, while the boys took second out of nine teams. Leading the way for the lady Thunder was eight individual first place performances including a sweep of the throwing competitions by Kaley Dalinghaus who won the shot put with a toss of 40'05, took first in the discus with a throw of 119'04.50 and tossed her way to first in the javelin with a heave of 124'02. Allison Rottinghaus also laid claim to a pair of gold medals leaping to first place in the long jump and triple jump with leaps of 15'11.50 and 36'07, while also taking second in the 200 meter dash. Laura Macke, Ashley Hammes and Alleigh Kramer all three also won an event at the Silver Lake Invite to open the track season. Macke won the high jump with a leap of 4'10, while also taking third in the pole vault and javelin. Hammes raced her way to a time of 17.52 in the 100 meter hurdles for first place and Kramer sprinted her way to the win in 200 meter dash with a time of 27.96.

Three other Thunder gals earned Top three finishes in competition as Jacy Dalinghaus took second in the shot put and discus, while Sara Kuckelman took second in the high jump and Shiann Kramer placed second in the 100 meter hurdles and third in the 100 meter dash.

Four individual first place finishes by Nemaha Central boy’s helped guide them to second place as a team behind only the host Silver Lake. Jacob Koezler started his track season strong with a first place showing in the 100 meter dash behind a time of 11.09, while leaping to first place in the long jump (20'04) and also taking second in the 200 meter dash. Zachary Buessing swept the hurdles posting times of 16.37 and 43.69 to win the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Caleb Henry snatched the other first place for the Thunder as he posted a vault of 12'00 to take first. The 4x100 meter relay team brought home the silver medal, while Bryant Stallbaumer took third in the javelin.

Marysville had the girls place sixth as a team and the boys finished ninth. The only Top three performances on the day came in the girl’s competition for the Bulldogs as Grace Stohs earned first place in the pole vault (10'06) and placed second in the 100 meter dash, while Ali Capp finished third in the 400 meter dash.

The track season continues for both teams next week as Nemaha Central will compete in Big Seven action in a Quad at Royal Valley on Tuesday, April 4th, while Marysville will compete next Friday, April 7th at the Concordia Invitational.
