Falls City Leads Area Performances at Hiawatha Boys Golf Invite

Eight area schools hit the golf course on Friday in Hiawatha as the Red Hawks played host to the first golf action of the spring sports season for many of the teams. 

Behind a team score of 184 Falls City won the Hiawatha Invitational beating out Maur Hill-Mount Academy who had a four-man team score of 190 to take second place, just four strokes better than Holton who tallied a 194 to place third. The host Hiawatha took fourth with a 226 team score, while Atchison, Immaculata and Royal Valley finished out the team standings finishing fifth, sixth and seventh with team scores of 223, 226 and 227. Horton also competed on the day but only had three golfers in action. 

A score of 36 by Aaron Kurpgeweit led the way for the Falls City Tigers as he earned first place individual just edging out another golfer. Isaac Hogue joined Kurpgeweit with a Top 10 individual finish on the day finishing seventh with a round of 47. While Austin Babb and Braden Oliver finished the Tigers team score after posting rounds of 50 and 51, respectively. 

Maur Hill-Mount Academy on their way to second place as a team had a trio of golfers earn Top 10 showings as Isaac Henderson had the best round of any Raven with a 45 to place fifth. While Nolan Dulac and Cole Harris posted rounds of 46 and 48 to finish sixth and eight, respectively. 

A third place finish by AJ Haussler led the Holton Wildcat squad who took third as a team as Haussler finished third individually with a 42 and his teammate Riley Shepley placed ninth with a 48. 

Atchison, Immaculata and Horton all had one Top 10 performer on the day at the Hiawatha Invitational. For the Redmen, Nathan Sowers posted a round of 44 to take fourth, while Immaculata was led by the round of 36 on the which tied for the best individual round by Evan Wheaton took second just behind Kurpgeweit of Falls City. Horton Charger, Cameron Smith earned tenth place after carding a 48. 

Royal Valley on the day was led by a score of 48 by Corey Humpert.
