Clifton-Clyde Competes at Bennington Track Invite

Clifton-Clyde Eagles opened the track and field season at the Bennington Invite and put together a strong start to the season. 

The lady Eagles registered the third most points as a team as 12 schools were in action at the Bennington Invite, while the boys finished sixth as team out of 12. 

A trio of gold medals by Baylie Bowser led the lady Eagles on the day at the Bennington Invite as she swept the throwing competitions. A toss of 37'07.50 won Bowser the shot put, while a mark of 89'05 earned her gold in the discus and first place came in the javelin with a toss of 99'07. The lone other first place finish for Clifton-Clyde on the day came in the boys competition as Matt Barnes won the long jump with a leap of 18'04, while also taking third in the triple jump. 

Eleven other Top five finishes were had by the Eagles girls, while seven more Top five performances were earned by the boys. On the track the lady Eagles 4x100 meter relay team earned second place, while Shaylea Lawson earned third place in the 400 meter dash and Payton Girard finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles. Jaysie Bowser grabbed a fourth and fifth place finish in the 300 meter hurdles and 1600 meter run, respectively. In the field events both Emily Coffman and Gracie Rudolph each had two Top five finishes. Coffman placed third in both the high jump and discus, while Rudolph grabbed a silver medal in the shot put and fifth place in the discus. Lacey Biggerstaff took the bronze in the pole vault, while Adria Girard placed fifth in the long jump. 

Most of the Top five performances for the boys came on the track as the Eagles 4x100 and 4x800 meter relay teams placed third and fourth place, respectively, while Zach Sorrell placed fourth in the 800 meter run. In the 110 meter hurdles Drake Steinbrock and Christian Seifert placed third and fifth, respectively, while Nathan Ohlde finished second in the 300 meter hurdles. Jacob Stenberg added a fourth place finish in the pole vault. 

The track season continues for Clifton-Clyde at the Washington County Invitational on Tuesday, April 11th.
