Perry Lecompton & Pleasant Ridge Both Compete at Basehor-Linwood Track Invite

A pair of area track teams were in action at the Basehor-Linwood Invite on Friday as Perry Lecompton and Pleasant Ridge stepped outside the area for some competition. 

The Perry Lecompton boys logged the best team finish with a third place finish out of nine schools in action, while the lady Kaws finished seventh out of 10 schools. For Pleasant Ridge the gals finished eighth and the boys ninth as teams. 

Two event wins in the boy’s competition led Perry Lecompton on the day as time of 45.21 and 3:33.38 earned the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay boys teams the gold. Thirteen more Top five finishes were had by the Perry Lecompton boy’s competitors on the day. Both Torin VanNest and Dalton Kellum registered two Top five finishes each as VanNest placed third in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and Kellum finished fourth in the 200 meter dash and fifth in the 100 meter dash. Also on the track for the Kaws Shane Quinlan grabbed third place in the 100 meter dash, while Cole Kellum took third in the 400 meter dash and Ty Packard and Josh LeClair placed second and fourth, respectively in the 800 meter run. In the field events Kade Surface took third in the pole vault, Colton Mallonee placed fourth in the triple jump and TJ Turpin and Jordan Spreer each had a fifth place finish in the discus and javelin. 

The Perry Lecompton girls were led by a pair of second place finishes as Lexia Jamison took the silver in the 800 meter run and Harleigh Robertson placed second in the discus, while also earning a third place finish in the javelin. Morgen Coyle added a fourth place finish in the javelin and Mykiah McDaniel placed fifth in the discus. 

Three second place finishes led the Pleasant Ridge boys at the Basehor-Linwood Invite as Clayton Price took second in the 3200 meter run, Glynn Smith placed second in the triple jump and the 1600 Sprint Medley team also tallied a second place finish. In the girls action the lady Rams 4x100 meter relay team grabbed a third place finish, while Bridget Howard took fourth in the triple jump and Mallory Wagner tied for fifth in the long jump. 

Track season continues for both teams on Tuesday, April 11th as Pleasant Ridge will travel to the Tonganoxie Invite and Perry Lecompton will host track action.
