Six Area Track Teams Compete at Rossville Invitational

Six area teams continued the track season on Friday as they compete at the Rossville Invitational and put together strong performances. Jefferson County North, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Valley Falls and Horton from the Northeast Kansas League were in action, while Riverside and Hiawatha out of the Big Seven League were also in action. 

The JCN Chargers were led by six first place finishes and 12 more second and third place finishes on the day. On the girls side of competition Kaylee Page earned first place in the pole vault behind a vault of 7'06, while Annabelle Vaught won the long jump with a leap of 14'00 and added a second place finish in the 100 meter dash. Lady Chargers 4x100 meter relay took second and the 4x400 meter relay team placed third, while Jentri Fowler placed third in the 300 meter hurdles and Allie Hofelt took third in the pole vault. For the boys on the track Knox Tweed and Brayden Summers each earned a gold winning the 110 meter hurdles (16.81) and 1600 meter run (4:55.44), respectively, while in the field events Ridge Robertson won the pole vault (11'09) and Jacob Schrick took first in the javelin (168'09). Summers added a third place finish in the 800 meter run and Robertson picked up second place finish in the 200 meter dash, also. Charger boys 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams each took second place, while Joel Abel grabbed a pair of silver medals in the 300 meter hurdles and high jump. Both Braden Schneider and Gavin Polson also each earned a second place finish coming in the shot put and discus, respectively. 

The best area individual performance came by a Riverside Cyclone as Tre'nez Wilkinson continues to have stellar track season and he continued that by winning four events at the Rossville Invitational. With times of 11.01, 22.60 and 51.07 Wilkinson sprinted to the gold in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes, while leaping to a jump of 19'08.25 to win the long jump. Lindsey Whitten won the girls 400 meter dash for the Cyclones and also took second in the pole vault and third in the 200 meter dash. The only other Top three finish on the day for Riverside was a second place finish in the boys 3200 meter run by Matthew Kline.  

Three first place finishes led the Hiawatha Red Hawks as the girl’s 4x800 meter relay team posted a time of 10:31.92 to take first and Cariann Kunkel won the girls high jump with a leap of 5'02 while also taking second in the javelin. The other first place finish was picked up by the Red Hawk boy’s 4x800 meter relay team after posting a time of 9:20.71. A pair of second place finishes were earned by Elizabeth Kettler coming in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.  

Multiple second place finishes led the Maur Hill-Mount Academy Ravens performances on the day at the Rossville Invitational. Both Nic Caudle and Arthur Rocha each took second coming in the 400 meter dash and 110 meter hurdles, respectively. While the lady Ravens earned second place in the both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays and Grace Siebert grabbed a third place finish in the 800 meter run.  

Valley Falls Dragons were led by a pair of third place finishes as Justin Myers took third in the boys 1600 meter run and Sway Schmelzle placed third in the girl’s 100 meter dash.

Daspin Bruning had the best performance for the Horton Chargers placing third in the girl’s javelin.
