From a small town to an opportunity at the Division I level to play football and from a walk-on and redshirt to being named a captain that is what hard work and sticking the course has earned former Holton Wildcat, Trent Tanking with the Kansas State football program.

Before this past Saturday's Purple/White annual Spring football game for Kansas State the Wildcat Head Coach, Bill Synder made the announcement of the 2017 captains for the team and Tanking was selected one of five players picked by his teammates as a captain. Quarterback, Jesse Ertz, offensive lineman, Dalton Risner, defensive back, DJ Reed and tight end, Dayton Valentine were also selected as captains. (Full article on captains being named - click here

Tanking who started his career as a walk-on and redshirted his first year with the program worked his way onto the field for Kansas State as part of the special teams unit and last year lead the team with 12 special teams tackles playing in all 13 games during the season. He also plays the linebacker spot and in the regular season finale against TCU last year filled in at that spot recording five tackles and an interception in the Wildcat win. The former Holton Wildcat enters the 2017 season with only 35 career tackles under his belt but with the graduation of the main linebackers from last year’s team he expects to vie for plenty of playing time and a starting spot. Tanking led the Purple defense in tackles during the Spring game with six. (feature article on Trent by K-State - click here)

The Wildcats are coming off a 9-4 finish in the 2016 season with 45 letterwinners and 18 starters back in the fold and are set to open the season at home against Central Arkansas on Saturday, September 2nd.
