Sabetha Girls & Boys Track Win Hiawatha Invite Leading Area Performers

The track season rolled along on Thursday in Hiawatha as the Red Hawks played host to several area teams and plenty of top notch performances were posted by athletes. 

Sabetha Bluejays led the performances as the girls and boys both earned first place as teams. The lady Bluejays with 146.50 total points earned first place by 33.5 points as Hiawatha took second place and Holton rounded out the Top three. Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Troy girls finished fourth and fifth, while Immacuata, Horton, ACCHS, Doniphan West and Pleasant Ridge placed sixth through tenth as teams. On the boys side of competition it was a total of 176 points for Sabetha to take first winning by 60 points. Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Hiawatha, Holton and Pleasant Ridge rounded out the Top five finishing second through fifth. Horton, ACCHS, Troy and Immaculata finished out the boys team standings in sixth through ninth. 

Sabetha Bluejays on the way to first place as a team for the girls and boys had 14 event wins on the day to lead the way. Braeden Cox helped lead the Sabetha boys as he won the high jump (6'02) and 800 meter run (2:11.49), while Kyle Grimm took first in the javelin (149'00), Christian Meyer won the pole vault (12'06) and Eric Renyer placed first in the shot put (45'03). Mason Engelken also won an event placing first in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.74, while the Bluejay boys swept the relay titles winning the 4x100 (47.27), 4x400 (3:43.18) and 4x800 (9:01.74) meter relays. The lady Bluejays won two of the three relays taking first in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays with times of 52.86 and 4:29.68, while Abby Hinton sprinted to the gold in the 100 meter dash (13.30). In the field events for the lady Bluejays both Grace Saner and Grace Kuenzi each won an event placing first in the pole vault (7'06) and discus (103'00), respectively. 

Hiawatha Red Hawks on the day had both Cariann Kunkel and Elizabeth Kettler each win two individual events. Kunkel posted a leap of 5'02 to win the high jump and a throw of 114'05 won her the javelin, also, while Kettler with times of 5:39.67 and 12:19.81 won the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Lady Red Hawks also earned first in the 4x800 meter relay after recording a time of 10:19.02. In the boys competition Andrew Lierz won the long jump (18'07), while Gavin Lierz took first in the 300 meter hurdles (40.65) and Andrew Woods ran to first in the 100 meter dash (11.49) for Hiawatha. 

Maur Hill-Mount Academy was led by Nic Caudle who won both the boys 200 and 400 meter dashes with times of 24.12 and 52.87. While in the girls competition Grace Siebert and Heather Ronnebaum each won an event for the Ravens earning first place in the 400 meter dash (1:04.55) and 800 meter run (2:36.04).

Holton Wildcats had a trio of athletes notch first place finishes at the Hiawatha Invite on Thursday. Tyler Price with a leap of 37'08 won the boys triple jump, while a toss of 139'07 won Andrew Harrison the boys discus and Abbigail Hundley won the girls 200 meter dash behind a time of 28.24. 

Pleasant Ridge had a pair of first place finishes both coming in the boys competition as Luke Oatney won the 1600 meter run (4:46.90) and Clayton Price took first in the 3200 meter run (10:42.86). 

Leading the way for Doniphan West was the performance of Shayna Wilson who swept the girls hurdles winning the 100 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 17.37 and 51.02. 

Troy, Horton and Immaculata all had one event winner on the day at the Hiawatha Invite. For the Troy Trojans, Morgan Masters with a leap of 15'09.50 won the girls long jump, while Horton Charger, Daspin Bruning with a toss of 35'01 won the girls shot put. Immacualta was led by Jordan Sachse who won the girls triple jump behind a leap of 32'08.50.
