Washington County & Clifton-Clyde Track Compete at Beloit Relays

A pair of Twin Valley League teams stepped outside the area and competed against plenty of tough competition at the annual Beloit Relays in track and field action on Friday. 

The Washington County boys put together one of the best overall performances of the day as they totaled 85 points and won the smaller division (2A-1A) competition at the Beloit Relays beating out 16 other teams. Tigers took the team title by only three points over Smith Center, the lady Tigers finished 15th out of 19 schools. Clifton-Clyde notched 13th and 18th finishes for the boys and girls as teams. 

The field events highlighted the performances for the Washington County boys as they won three and had nine Top three finishers in field events. Jerrod Hoover posted a jump of 6'06 to win the high jump, while Levi Gauby with a leap of 40'08 won the triple jump and a toss of 152'02 won Hunter Kier the discus. All three guys had Top three finishes in other events too as Hoover took second in the javelin, Gauby placed second in the pole vault and Kier registered a third place finish in the shot put. Jae Eaton took second in both the shot put and discus and also raced to fifth place in the 100 meter dash, while Dawson Miller finished with a silver in the javelin. 

Lady Tigers had a three Top five finishes at the Beloit Relays as Jenna Hennerberg took fourth in the shot put and the 4x100 meter relay also placed fourth, while Breanna Linenberger finished fifth in the discus. 

Clifton-Clyde was led by a third place finish by Baylie Bowser in the girls long jump notching a third place finish, while in the boys competition Michael Spehr took fifth in the 110 meter hurdles. 

Both teams are set to continue their track seasons next week as Washington County will compete at the Nemaha Central Invite on Tuesday, May 2nd and Clifton-Clyde will compete at the Lincoln Invite on Friday, May 5th.
