Jackson Heights & Onaga Track Compete at St. Marys Invite

Onaga and Jackson Heights track athletes continued their season on Friday competing at the St. Marys Invite. 

The Onaga Buffalo girls earned a fifth place team finish out of 10 teams, while the boys finished 11th and the Jackson Heights boys recorded a sixth place finish out of 11 and the Cobra girls finished ninth. 

Onaga Buffaloes were led by Belinda Ames in the girls competition as she took second in the 300 meter hurdles and finished third in the 100 meter hurdles and long jump. McKayla Hall earned a third place finish in the 200 meter dash and placed fourth in the 100 meter dash, while Shay Duer registered the second best throw in the javelin and Morgan Mayginnes placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles.  

On the boys side of competition for Onaga, Brendan Melvin earned a fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash and also finished fifth in the javelin, while the 4x400 meter relay tallied a fifth place finish. 

Jackson Heights were led by a first place finish in the girls and boys level of competition. In the boys action Dalton Chartier won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:05.72, while the 4x800 meter relay team took second and Curtis Niehues nabbed second in the shot put. Third place finishes were earned by Mason Hamilton and Mark Mavrovich in the 200 meter dash and 3200 meter run, respectively. Three more Top five finishes were earned by the Cobra boys also as AJ Mock placed fourth in the 1600 meter run, while Xavier Fritz and Braden Dohl placed fifth in the 800 meter run and discus. 

Lady Cobras were led by Karley Dieckmann who with a vault of 7'00 won the pole vault and also took fifth in the 800 meter run. While Trinity McMahon earned a third place finish in the 400 meter dash and Abby Brey placed fourth in the discus and the girls 4x800 meter relay placed fifth. 

Track season continues for both teams next week as Jackson Heights will compete at the Nemaha Central Invite on Tuesday, May 2nd and Onaga will host their own meet on Friday, May 5th. The Cobras will also compete in Onaga next Friday.
