JCN Girls & Boys Claim Northeast Kansas League Track Titles

Northeast Kansas League Track Meet (at JCN) Results (5-11-17) - Girls & Boys

The end of the regular season for track means League meets and on Thursday Jefferson County North hosted the Northeast Kansas League meet in Winchester. 

At the end of the day it was the host JCN leading the charge with the top finishes as the girls and boys each won the NEKL title. The lady Chargers posted 166 total points to win the League title by 24 points. Jackson Heights girls won second easily, while Immaculata took third place. Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Oskaloosa, McLouth, Valley Falls, Horton and Pleasant Ridge finished out the girl’s team finishes in fourth through ninth. 

In the boys competition JCN posted 157 total points to take the NEKL title by 64 points. Jackson Heights earned second place, while Maur Hill-Mount Academy placed third. Pleasant Ridge, Oskaloosa, McLouth, Horton, Valley Falls and Immaculata finished out the boys team standings in fourth through ninth. 

On the way to the sweep of the NEKL team track titles JCN was led by 12 event wins between the girls and boys. Leading the way for the Charger girls was Jentri Fowler who swept the hurdles winning the 100 and 300 with times of 17.15 and 52.42. The girls also earned first place on the track in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 53.11 and Annabelle Vaught earned first in the 100 meter dash (13.15), while in the field events Josie Weishaar, Ravyn Jobbins and Kaylee Page each won an event. Weishaar took first in the high jump (4'10), Jobbins won the javelin (114'04) and Page snagged first in the pole vault (8'00). The boys were led by Braden Schneider who posted throws of 158'04.50 and 43'03.50 to win the javelin and shot put, while Ridge Robertson won the pole vault (11'06). On the track the JCN boys raced to gold in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays with times of 45.06 and 3:36.81. 

Jackson Heights Cobra athletes earned nine first place performances at the NEKL meet. Faith Little won both the girls 800 and 1600 meter runs behind times of 2:24.67 and 17:51, while Makenzie Kennedy earned first in the 3200 meter run (13:32.10) and the girls 4x400 meter relay (4:15.36) placed first. Abby Williams also earned a first place finish for the lady Cobras leaping to the win in the long jump (16'06.50). In the boy’s action on the track Steven Marshall won the 200 meter dash (23.12), Dalton Chartier placed first in the 800 meter run (2:02.99) and the 4x800 meter relay (9:05.77) team took first. Braden Dohl also won an event for Jackson Heights claiming first in the discus with a toss of 120'09.50. 

John Tarwater continued to lead the Oskaloosa Bears performances on the day as he swept the hurdles posting times of 16.82 and 41.87 to win the 110 and 300 meters and also notched a leap of 6'0 to win the boys high jump. In the girls action Alexi Adams and Jaden Courter won the 400 meter dash (1:02.50) and shot put (36'00), respectively. 

For McLouth the performance of Dimitri Tullis led the way at the NEKL meet as he won the long and triple jump titles with leaps of 21'01.50 and 42'04.50. Sarah Dailey also earned a gold medal winning the girls discus with a throw of 109'09. 

Nick Caudle of Maur Hill-Mount Academy took first place in the boys 100 and 400 meter dashes posting times of 11.27 and 51.55, while in the girl’s competition the Ravens 4x800 meter relay team took first with a time of 10:39.64. 

The boys distance runs highlighted the performances for Pleasant Ridge at the NEKL meet as Luke Oatney and Clayton Price took first in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 4:43.60 and 10:42, respectively. 

Valley Falls and Immaculata each had one event winner on the day at the NEKL meet. Sway Schmelzle won the girls 200 meter dash (27.71) for Valley Falls, while Immaculata was led by Jordan Sachse who won the girls triple jump (33'04.25).
