Atchison Girls & Boys Track Teams Take First at KCAL Meet

The Atchison girls and boys track teams each took first place at the Kansas City-Atchison League meet hosted by Washington Thursday evening behind 16 first place finishes.

The Atchison girls dominated the competition at the KCA League meet finishing 90 point ahead of Sumner, led by nine gold medal performances.

Individually on the track Jaihlyn Bratton took the gold in the 400 meter dash behind a time of 1:03, while Lyndi Hanson took the top spot in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:35. The Lady Red also swept the distance races, as Lyndi Hanson came away with first in the 1600 meter run with a 5:56 mile, while Teagan Hanson claimed the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:52. The Atchison girls also took two of the three relay events, taking the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17 and the 4x800 meter relay at 10:44. In the field events the Lady Red has three first place finishers, as Libby Harper took the pole vault (7’06”), Jaihlyn Bratton the triple jump (34’06”) and Lindsay Anderson the discus (106’00”).

The Redmen boys finished 86 points ahead of second place Washington, and were led by seven gold medal performances.

Lamarca Tolbert paced the way for Atchison with two first place finishes on the track, taking the gold in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 11.08 and 23.42, respectively. Alex Martin also took first in the 400 meter dash behind a time of 52.74 which rounded out the Redmen boys on the track. In the field events Steven Jolly took first in the high jump at 5’10”, while Fred Simpson claimed the gold in the triple jump with a leap of 40’03”. Nathan Stone also won the pole vault at 11’00”, while Cameron Drury took first in the discus with a throw of 114’03”.

The Redmen now get set for the regional track meet which will take place Friday, May 19 at Baldwin High School.
