Jeff West, Atchison & Holton Post Strong Performances at 4A Track Regional

Three area schools compete at in Baldwin in Class 4A track action at Regionals looking to post Top four finishes to earn a spot at State and athletes from Jeff West, Atchison and Holton qualified for State. 

The Jeff West lady Tigers had the best team performance of the three area teams as they earned second place. A pair of Regional titles by Mariah Murdie helped lead the way for Jeff West winning the 100 meter hurdles (15.82) and triple jump (36'05.50), while Makenzie Tucker earned the win the pole vault (9'06) and finished third in the 800 meter run. The girl’s 4x800 meter relay team also took first posting a time of 9:59.24. Jordan Hawman qualified for State in two events taking second in the 400 meter dash and third in the 200 meter dash. Macy Tucker, Dejalynn Saili and Alyssa Garza each recorded a fourth place performance for the lady Tigers earning fourth in the 1600 meter run, discus and shot put, respectively. For the Tiger boys Trey Markham earned a spot at State after placing fourth in the 300 meter hurdles. 

Atchison girls followed Jeff West in the team standings taking third at Regionals as several athletes earned a spot at State. The girls 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams are both headed to State after placing fourth and third, respectively. While in the hurdles Arhianna Franklin and Emily Jaloma placed second and third in the 300 meter hurdles and Elizabeth Harper finished third in the 100 meter hurdles. Lyndi Hanson earned third place in the girls 600 meter run, while in the boy’s competition LaMarca Tolbert took third in the 200 meter dash and fourth in the 100 meter dash, while Alex Martin placed third in the 400 meter dash. 

Holton Wildcats were led at Regionals by three first place performances all in the boy’s competition. The boy’s 4x400 meter relay team posted a time of 3:30.28 to earn first, while Mason Strader took the gold in the 800 meter run (2:00.90) and Bryson Patch won the 400 meter dash (52.05). Strader also qualified in the 1600 meter run after a third place finish, while the 4x100 meter relay earned second place. Andrew Harrison placed fourth in the discus for Holton, while in the girl’s competition Regan Baum took second in the 100 meter hurdles to earn a spot at State. 

State track meet is set for Friday and Saturday, May 26-27th in Wichita at Cessna stadium.
