Wednesday night featured all seven Northeast Kansas League legion baseball teams in action with three League doubleheaders and one non-league twinbill. 

Seneca picked up their first two wins of the season with a sweep of Sabetha in a pair of tight ballgames winning 6-3 and 14-13. While, Silver Lake took down Corning winning 12-1 and 3-0 for the sweep in League play and Doniphan County swept Leavenworth in League action 2-1 and 9-2. 

Oskaloosa took on Maur Hill summer team and snagged a pair of wins winning 11-2 and 11-7 for the doubleheader sweep. 

The season continues for Sabetha and Corning on Friday, June 9th as part of the Marysville Classic which will go through the weekend. While the rest of the NEKL teams will hit the diamond again on Sunday, June 11th. The 4:00pm game of the Seneca at Doniphan County doubleheader will be on 103.9 KNZA on Sunday.

Seneca Snags First Wins of Season With Sweep of Sabetha

Entering the night both Sabetha and Seneca were at different points in the season with one team already having played seven games and the other just one. Seneca looking for their first win of the season earned a pair sweeping Sabetha at home with tight 6-3 and 14-13 victories extending their win streak over Sabetha to 11 games. 

Game one saw Seneca strike first scoring a pair of runs on three walks and a two RBI single by Luke Reitz in the bottom of the first inning. Sabetha broke through for their first tally with a run in the top of the third as Brandon Brownlee doubled and then Blake Frey brought him in with a single to make it 2-1. The lead flipped to Sabetha with a two-run top of the fourth using a RBI double from Riley Hermann and Trevor Kramer RBI single to make it 3-2 entering the bottom of the fourth. Seneca worked the bases loaded with two-outs in the fourth and a walk brought in a run to tie the game but Seneca spoiled the opportunity to take the lead leaving the bases loaded. Sabetha had a pair of opportunities in the fifth and sixth to try and regain the lead but came up short and in the bottom of the sixth Seneca retook the lead with three runs. Chase Kramer led sixth off with a solo home run, while Paul Enneking reached on a walk and came around to score on a error and passed ball and Trevor Holthaus added a solo home run to make it 6-3. Down to their final three outs Sabetha was set down in order by Dalton Hiltbrand in the top of the seventh to secure the 6-3 Seneca win. 

Seneca in the win was led Kramer who went 2-3 with a solo home run, two run scored and RBI earning McDonald's "Player of the Game" honors on KNZA. Hiltbrand finished the game for Seneca on the mound pitching the final three innings giving up just one hit with four strikeouts; Paul Enneking started the contest. 

In the loss Sabetha was led by Frey and Hermann at the plate as they each had two hits. 

The nightcap featured plenty of runs with each team posting an eight-run half inning. Sabetha took the early lead with two runs in the first and Seneca got one themselves in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second Sabetha batted around and scored eight runs on five hits and led 10-1 entering the bottom of the second, as a two RBI double by Kramer and RBI singles by Kyle Grimm and Seth Burdick highlighted the game for Sabetha. Seneca got four runs in the bottom of the second and then tallied eight runs in the bottom of the third on six hits to take the 13-10 lead. Mitchell Henry blasted a grand slam to score four runs in the eight run third for Seneca. Still in the contest Sabetha got a run in the fourth and in the top of the fifth inning plated the tying runs on an error on a fly ball pushing the game into the bottom of the fifth tied at 13-13. With one out Seneca got a triple by Lucas Schraad and the loaded the bases with two intentional walks and Trenton Henry delivered a walkoff RBI single to give Seneca the 14-13 win. 

The losses put Sabetha at 6-3 on the season as they were led by Frey in game two as he went 3-4 with two runs scored and was on base four times. Kramer added a 2-3 performance with three RBI's. 

With the wins Seneca moved to 2-1 on the season and were lead by Schraad who went 3-4 with four runs scored, while Hiltbrand, Trenton Henry and Holthaus each had two hits and two RBI's. Holthaus registered a pair of doubles. 

Doniphan County Takes Two Against Leavenworth

In a pair different contests Donpihan County was victorious in both over Leavenworth on the road in Northeast Kansas League legion baseball action winning 2-1 and 9-2. 

A pitching duel broke out in game one between Zeb Speer and Reid Herken of Doniphan County and Leavenworth, respectively. Ultimately despite only four hits Doniphan County earned the 2-1 win as Reid Greaser scored both runs and also tossed the final two innings for the save. Speer earned the win going five innings giving up just one unearned run on four hits, two walks and six strikeouts, while Herken took the tough loss tossing seven innings surrendering two runs on four hits, four walks and seven strikeouts. 

Game two belonged to Doniphan County as Brody Winder tossed four innings to earn the win giving up just one run on four hits, one walk and seven strikeouts and Greaser pitched the final inning. At the plate several Doniphan County guys worked into the offense as Bryson Kirkland had an inside the park home run, while Clayton Ridout and Winder each recorded two hits and Speer had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI's. For Leavenworth Tristin Wright had a multi-hit game, while Adam Jeske started the game on the mound. 

Silver Lake Sweeps Corning In League Twinbill

The night belonged to Silver Lake on Wednesday in their matchup with Corning in Northeast Kansas League legion baseball action as they earned the sweep on the road with 12-1 and 3-0 wins. 

Scoring started early in game one and was often in the contest for Silver Lake as they plated two runs in the first and second innings, while adding three in the third, another in the fourth and a five run outburst in the fifth cruising to the win. Silver Lake out-hit Corning 12-5 in the game as Joey Clark, Josh Dallman and Wyatt Heiman each had two hits and Jake Lindstrom had four RBI. Kyle Frick picked up the win on the mound going four innings recording five strikeouts, while Jackson Glessner and Hunter Koch each pitched for Corning. 

Silver Lake in game two out-hit Corning 9-1 on the way to the 3-0 win scoring all three runs in the top of third, while Lindstrom was strong on the mound going four and two-thirds to earn the win recording nine strikeouts. Reid Walker and Heiman each had two hits for Silver Lake in the win. In the loss Corning had Kamble Haverkamp throw all five innings giving up three runs on nine hits while recording four strikeouts. 

Oskaloosa Tops Maur Hill Earning the DoubleHeader Sweep

Oskaloosa legion baseball earned a pair of wins of Maur Hill's summer baseball team picking up the 11-2 and 11-7 wins. 

Tied 2-2 after the first inning in game one Oskaloosa used a four-run fourth and five-run fifth to take control and while out-hitting Maur Hill 13-6 went on to earn the win. Cooper Thurston notched three hits and two RBI's for Oskaloosa, while Hunter Reed added three hits and Jared Miller had three RBI's. Justin Shufflebarger earned the win on the mound givig up two runs, on five hits and five strikeouts. 

Game two Oskaloosa posted four-run first and third innings and led 11-3 entering the top of the fifth when Maur Hill scored four runs to draw closer but ultimatley saw their comeback opportunity fall short as Oskaloosa won 11-7. Dawson Gatzemeyer recorded three hits to lead Oskaloosa, while Tate Swank went 1-2 with three RBI. Eli King earned the win for Oskaloosa tossing three innings giving up one run on three hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
