The postseason opened up for the area AA legion baseball teams with Zone Tournament action on Sunday with first round games in Sabetha. 

Seneca handled Silver Lake earning the 7-1, while Doniphan County beat Corning 10-2 in six innings. With the wins both teams move on in the Winner's bracket, while both Silver Lake and Corning fall to the Loser's bracket but remain alive in the double elimination tournament. 

The action continues Monday night as Sabetha will square off with Seneca at 6:00pm followed by Marysville facing Doniphan County at 8:00pm (both games will be broadcasted on 103.9 KNZA). Silver Lake and Corning will each play again on Tuesday night against the losers of Monday's games. 

Seneca Uses Strong Pitching Performance to Top Silver Lake

Just a week removed from a pair of loses to Silver Lake in Northeast Kansas League Seneca dominated the opening round of the AA Zone Tournament in Sabetha claiming a 7-1 victory. 

A leadoff walk was manufactured into a run in the top of the first for Seneca and then a two-out RBI single by Dalton Hiltibrand in the second gave Seneca a 2-0 lead. After four base runners in the first two innings Silver Lake had just one base runner in the next three innings again Seneca's Derek Uphaus, while Seneca tallied two-runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth leading 6-0. In the bottom of the sixth Silver Lake had the first two batters reach safely after being hit by pitches and then Justin Keller record the games only hit for Silver Lake notching an RBI single to make it 6-1 but a double play finished the inning and Silver Lake only got one run. In the top of the seventh Seneca tallied another run and then Uphaus finished the game with a one-two-three bottom of the seventh to secure the 7-1 Seneca win. 

Uphaus earned McDonald's "Player of the Game" on KNZA after tossing all seven innings for the win giving up just one-run on one-hit, three walks, three hit batters and struckout seven, while going 1-4 at the plate for Seneca. Paul Enneking led the offense going 2-3 with a double, two runs scored and RBI and was on base four times (reached on error and HBP), while Hiltibrand finished 2-4 w/two RBI and run scored. 

In the loss Silver Lake got their lone hit from Keller who was 1-2 with a walk and RBI. While on the mound Jake Lindstrom tossed four innings as the starter giving up four runs on two hits, five walks, hit batter and struckout seven. Garret Huske tossed three innings surrendering three runs on five hits and two walks. 

The win moves Seneca to 14-8 on the season, while Silver Lake falls to 16-10 on the season. 

Doniphan County Uses Plenty of Offense Top Corning

While the game started a bit rough for Doniphan County they ultimately settled in and earned the 10-2 win in six innings over Corning in the first round of the AA Zone tournament at Sabetha on Sunday. 

A pair of Doniphan County errors in the first three batters of the game with a single by Kamble Haverkamp in between helped lead to two-runs for Corning in the top of the first. In the bottom of the second inning Doniphan County sent all nine guys to the plate and scored three runs to take the lead 3-2. A Tyler Franken two RBI single highlighted the frame for Doniphan County. Doniphan County extended that lead with four-runs in the bottom of the third with a two RBI double by Reid Greaser and RBI single by Franken leading the charge. Doniphan County starter, Zeb Speer after giving up a leadoff single in the top second retired the next 10 Corning batters and along with Levi Watts who pitched the final inning and one-third allowed just four base runners after the first inning in the contest to Corning. The game ended in the bottom of the sixth with five-hits getting Doniphan County three runs to win 10-2 via run-rule with Watts and Clayton Ridout delivering an RBI single and RBI double in the inning. 

Speer earned the win going four and two-third innings giving up two runs on three hits, a walk while striking out five and went 2-4 at the plate for Doniphan County. Watts finished the game on the mound toss one and one-third innings and went 3-3 with a double, two runs scored, RBI and walk earning McDonald's "Player of the Game" on KNZA. While Franken was 3-4 with a triple and three RBI's and Greaser went 1-3 with a double and three RBI. 

In the loss Corning had just three hits with Haverkamp, Dustin Talley and Josh Hasenkamp each notching a hit; Haverkamp and Braden Deters each scored a run. Jackson Glessner, Quinn Buessing and Haverkamp each saw time on the mound for Corning. 

The win moves Doniphan County to 19-7 on the season, while Corning fell to 2-17 on the season.
