Eight Northeast Kansas Football Teams Ranked in CatchitKansas Preseason Poll

With the first day of fall sports practice on Monday one media outlet in Kansas released their preseason high school football rankings as the season looms in the coming weeks. CatchitKansas released their preseason Top 10 for each classification in Kansas for high school football and six teams find themselves in the rankings. 

Class 4A-Division II sees the Holton Wildcats in the Top 10 rankings coming in at #5. The Wildcats are coming off a 7-5 season in which saw them make the Sub-State round of the playoffs in Class 4A-DII just missing the State title game. 

Nemaha Central Thunder check in preseason ranked #4 by CatchitKansas in Class 3A. The Thunder posted a 12-1 mark last year making it to the Sub-State round of the playoffs, finishing as one of the top four teams in 3A. 

Class 2-1A features a quartet of area teams in the preseason rankings with two Twin Valley League and two Northeast Kansas League teams in the polls. The defending 2-1A State Champion, Troy Trojans come in at #1 in the polls after a 13-0 record last year and the school's first football State title. Fellow TVL member Washington County checks in at #3 in the preseason rankings after finishing 8-3 last year and making the second round of the playoffs. Jefferson County North and Jackson Heights out of the NEKL are ranked #5 and #6, respectively in the CatchitKansas preseason poll. JCN notched an 8-2 mark last year and made the playoffs, while Jackson Heights finished 6-3 last year. 

In 8-Man football the Hanover Wildcats from the Twin Valley League captured the Division II State title going 12-0 last year in route to the State championship. Hanover starts the season preseason ranked #1 in 8-Man DII by CatchitKansas. While in 8-Man DI the Clifton-Clyde Eagles who finished last year 8-2 with a playoff appearance come in preseason ranked #10. 

The Friday night lights will light up for the first time for the 2017 season on Friday, September 1st to open the high school football season.
