Nemaha Central & Royal Valley Take Second & Third to Lead Area Performances at Marysville Volleyball Invite

Seven area high school volleyball teams opened their season in tournament action on Saturday as Marysville hosted the action. Nemaha Central, Royal Valley, Washington County, Hanover, Sabetha and Valley Heights were all in action along with Concordia and Riley County. 

Nemaha Central led the area performances finishing the day 5-1 in action and taking second place, while fellow Big Seven League team Royal Valley went 3-2 and earned third place. The host Marysville notched a 3-3 day placing third, while Hanover took fifth behind a 4-2 day on the court. Washington County recorded a record of 1-3 on the day, while Sabetha finished with a 0-4 day. 

The action opened with pool play at Marysville. In the Red pool there were five teams and Nemaha Central went through the pool unbeaten beating Valley Heights, Riley County and Hanover in straight sets, while taking down Marysville in the three sets. Marysville earned second in the pool picking up three set wins over Riley County and Hanover, while also beating Valley Heights. Hanover notched a 2-2 mark in pool play with three set win over Valley Heights and Riley County each, while Riley County beat Valley Heights in three sets giving them a 1-3 pool play performance and the Mustangs 0-4. 

The Black pool only featured four teams and was won by Concordia who went 3-0 with straight set wins over Washington County, Royal Valley and Sabetha. Royal Valley took second in the pool picking up a three set win over Sabetha and topping Washington County in straight sets. Washington County earned a win over Sabetha in three sets. 

In bracket play the two pool play winners each won their Semifinal contest as Nemaha Central topped Royal Valley in straight sets and Concordia took down Marysville in straight sets. While in the Consolation bracket Riley County and Hanover beat Washington County and Sabetha, respectively in straight sets. 

The Championship was a tight battle but went the way of Concordia who won in straight sets over Nemaha Central, while third place was garnered by Royal Valley after the Panthers won a three set showdown against Marysville. In the Consolation final Hanover topped Riley County in straight sets.
