Hiawatha Girls Win & Boys Take Second to Lead Area Performances at Jeff West Cross Country Invite

Full Jeff West Cross Country Invite Results (8-31-17) - Girls & Boys

Off and running area cross country teams were when they opened their seasons at the Jeff West Invitational on Thursday. 

Leading the charge for the area teams was the Hiawatha Red Hawks who saw the girls take first place and boys nabbed second place as a team. In the girls action Hiawatha posted 71 total points to win by 15 points over Christ Prep Academy who took second. Sabetha girls finished third as a team while KC East Christian Academy and Jeff West rounded out the top five taking third and fourth, respectively. The rest of the girls team finishes saw Perry Lecompton take sixth, Royal Valley seventh, ACCHS eighth, McLouth place ninth, Holton tenth and Northern Heights eleventh. 

In the boys competition KC East Christ Academy earned first place notching 62 total points to win by 17 points over Hiawatha who took second place by a wide margin. Perry Lecompton, Sabetha and Christ Prep Academy finished third, fourth and fifth as teams in the boys competition. The rest of the boys team finishes saw Royal Valley take sixth, McLouth place seventh, Valley falls eighth, Northern Heights ninth, Holton tenth and Jeff West eleventh. 

The top individual performance from the area came from the Hiawatha Red Hawks as Justin Hodge raced to a time of 17:40.54 to win the boys race by over 40 seconds. Two of his teammates nabbed Top 20 performances as Liam Jones finished ninth (19:15.64) and Andrew Lierz placed 19th. Lady Red Hawks were led by four Top 20 finishers including Kate Madsen who finished seventh (22:23.55), while Emma Williams, Mary Rosa and Madison Gilbert placed 14th,15th and 18th, respectively. 

Host Jeff West had the best area individual girl’s performance on the day as Macy Tucker posted a time of 21:46.97 to take second place. Makenzie Tucker raced to fifth place posting a time of 22:17.55, while Sarah Sayles finished 20th. 

Sabetha Bluejays put together a strong start to the cross country season as the lady Bluejays took third and the boys fourth as teams. Leading the in the girls competition Megan Meyer placed sixth with a time of 22:18.57, while Skylar McAfee behind a time of 22:51.55 placed 10th. Hattie Lukert also notched a Top 20 finish for the lady Bluejays finishing 12th. In the boys competition Henry Glynn posted a time of 18:35.55 to take third, while Caden Dillon placed 15th and Micah Romines finished 18th. 

Royal Valley boys duo of Garrett Hicks and Nue Tinajero each registered Top 10 finishes posting times of 18:58.18 and 19:03.30 to take fifth and seventh. 

A trio of Perry Lecompton Kaws recorded Top 20 finishes on the day with Joshua Mitts leading the charge with a time of 19:02.42 to placed sixth in the boys race. On the girls side Jolie Hirsch and Blaise Ball notched 16th and 19th place finishes on the day. 

Both Wetmore and McLouth had multiple Top 20 finishes on the day at the Jeff West Invitational. For the Cardinals Alena Pfrang raced to ninth place with a time of 22:50.49 in the girl’s action, while Jonathan Hladky-Bailey took 12th in the boy’s race. McLouth Bulldogs were led by Baylee Wolfe as she placed eighth with a time of 22:41.64, while Kody Driskill took 14th in the boy’s race. 

ACCHS Tiger, Victoria Caplinger placed 11th in the girls race to open the season, while Noah Hefty from Valley Falls earned eighth place (19:10.38) in the boys competition.
