Axtell & Frankfort Cross Country Runners Set Pace at Marysville Invite With Top Times

2017 Marysville Cross Country Invitational (9-2-17) - Full Results 

Several area schools opened up the 2017 cross country season with their teams in action on Saturday at the Marysville Invitational and plenty of strong performances were posted.

In the girls competition the Axtell Eagles led the charge posting the top two times on the day as Olivia Kuckelman earned first place after posting a time of 22:36.32, while Jordyn Smith took second behind a time of 23:52.92. A quartet of boys for the Eagles finished in the Top 20 including two in the Top 10 with Quinn Buessing leading the way finishing third with a time of 19:00.21 and Simon Schmitz posted a time fo 19:27.80 to place sixth, while Mitchell Buessing and Blake Porting raced to 18th and 20th place. 

A time of 17:49.21 won the boys competition as Brodric Shirley posted the time winning the competition by over 26 seconds. Brandon Anderson also nabbed Top 10 finish for the Wildcats posting a time of 19:31.56 to place seventh, while Colton Parthemer finished 11th. For the lady Wildcats Tori Keller and Maggi Armstrong led the way finished 11th and 18th, respectively. Both the Wildcat girls and boys each earned second place as teams on the day behind only Riley County. 

Centralia, Valley Heights, Nemaha Central, Washington County, Troy, Marysville and Horton will all in action also on the day. The Panthers of Centralia were led by a fourth place finish in the girls race as Emma Holthaus posted a time of 24:17.31, while Emily Weyer and Kendall Durland placed 12th and 13th. Dylan Boeckman and Devon Feldkamp each raced to Top 10 finishes in the boy’s competition racing to times of 19:31.56 and 19:32.08 to place eighth and ninth. 

Alex Hardin with a time of 19:03.78 led Valley Heights as he earned fourth place, while in the girls race Abby Lister finished fifth with a time of 25:27.01. Sam Harden also took 17th place in the girl’s race for the Mustangs. 

Nemaha Central had multiple Top 20 finishers on the day as Jordan Peterson placed 13th in the boy’s race and Cassidy Goering took 15th place in the girl’s competition. 

A fifth place finish with a time of 19:10.97 in the boys action led Washington County as Tyler Simmons earned that finish. 

For Troy it was Holly Williams posting the best performance finishing seventh in the girls race with a time of 26:39.16, while Kyla Reel took 16th. 

The host Marysville had in the boys race had Davis Lee place 12th, Ben Kirkland 14th and Matt Holle 19th, while in the girls competition Sydney Grauer raced to a time of 25:27.01 to place sixth and Jordan Nietfeld finished 14th.
