It was a complete dominating effort by the Centralia Panthers on Friday night as Troy lost their home opener 49-0 and had a 19-game home winning streak stopped in the process.  Trenton Flentie ran for 228 yards and scored five first half touchdowns as Centralia won their Twin Valley League opener and held the Trojans to just 79 yards of total offense.

After intercepting a pass on the second play of the game, Centralia needed just two plays before Flentie broke a 31-yard score less than 90 seconds into the contest.  The spinnerback in the single wing, Flentie, returned to the endzone on runs of four, 59, 49 and 4 yards to put the Panthers up 36-0 at halftime and didn’t run the ball in the second half.  Flentie ran away with the “Player to Bank on” honors from the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company of Hiawatha.

Nathan Rempe had 63 yards and a third quarter score and Devin Feldkamp ran for 105 yards on 15 second half carries while also busting a 47-yard touchdown.  Ian Haverkamp added 35 yard rushing while Noah Quigley had 34 and Kamble Haverkamp ran for 36 yards while only catching Centralia’s only pass of the night as Flentie converted a fourth and 17 play with a 33 yard strike to Kamble Haverkamp late in the second quarter.  Evan Slater had two interceptions for the Panther defense and fellow senior, Ethan Becker was a top tackler, including several plays behind the line of scrimmage.

Justin Ferron was the Denison State Bank “Lineman of the Game” with a pair of quarterback sacks and a solid night along the offensive line, while center Josh Hasenkamp also helped create some monster holes for the dominating offensive line.  Kenton Talley kicked five of six extra points and Rempe atoned for the one miss with a successful two-point conversion just before halftime.  Centralia improved to 2-1 and 1-0 in the TVL with a home game against Doniphan West next week.

Troy is now 1-2 and host Perry Lecompton next after running for just 52 yards on 25 carries.  Kipp Jasper was 9 of 28 passing for 27 yards and the Trojans also hurt themselves with eight penalties that forced third and long situations.  Jacob Moore had 31 yards rushing while Tysen Williams added 25. Reid Jasper caught four passes for 15 yards and Bray Davies had 19 yards on three receptions before a running clock throughout the fourth quarter.
