Rolling out of the Bye week the Highland Scotties were looking to get back in the win column on the gridiron and did so in dominating fashion behind a stout defensive showing and strong balanced offense with a 34-0 win over Iowa Central in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

After a slow start to the game on offense for the Scotties which included an early turnover Highland settled in and found the endzone for the first time with 3:24 on the clock in the first quarter as Kyle Kearns hit Willie Jordan for a 20-yard touchdown pass on a 10-play drive covering 68-yards making it 7-0. The second quarter belonged to the Scotties also as they put together a nine play drive spanning 52-yards that ended with a five-yard touchdown pass from Kearns to Ronnie Jamison and Highland led 14-0 with 12:58 in the first half. More points came at to the tune of a pair of field goals as William Solomon booted a 22-yard and 46-yard field goal to make it 20-0 and that would be the halftime lead for the Scotties. Solomon’s 46-yard field goal is his career long in college.

While the offense moved the ball in the first half after a slow start on the first two drives the defense was a nightmare for the Tritons of Iowa Central forcing them into -5 yards of total offense at halftime, while wreaking havoc in the backfield on the quarterback and ball carriers.

The strong defense continued in the second half for Highland along with the offense too as the Scotties found paydirt early in the second half as Kearns continued his aerial artistry on the day hitting Tyrique Williams for a 78-yard touchdown strike to make it 27-0. Highland capped the scoring with a spectacular catch and run by Jamison of 53-yards for a touchdown to make it 34-0 and the reserves finished the contest.

Scottie defense forced a turnover on downs on a Triton drive that ended just outside of the endzone and pitched the shutout giving up just 88-yards of total offense and nine first downs to Iowa Central, while piling up nine sacks. Reco Hannah returned to the fold in a big way to lead the team in tackles with 11 and have 3.5 sacks, while Jeremiah Hill recorded seven tackles and 1.5 sacks. Loren Young gobbled up the quarterback twice, while Amadou Fofana also had a sack on the day.

Offensively Highland was led by balance attack that had 288 yards passing and 180 yards on the ground and converted on 9-12 third downs. Kearns finished the contest 16-22 for 257 yards with four touchdowns and one interception, while 10 different guys caught a pass on the day including a seven catch day for Jamison for 117 yards with two scores. Williams grabbed two passes for 91 yards and a score. On the ground Kevin Brown ran 11 times for 82 yards.

The win moves Highland to 2-1 on the season and 3-1 against Iowa Central over the past four years outscoring the Tritons 123-18 during that time frame. Up next the Scotties continue their season on the road again as they travel to Hutchinson for a showdown with the Blue Dragons on Saturday, September 16th with a 12:00pm kickoff (catch the game on the Scottie Sports Network & 103.9 KNZA).
