Pleasant Ridge Boys & Jackson Heights Girls Claim NEKL Cross Country Titles

2017 Northeast Kansas League Cross Country Meet Results (10-12-17) - Girls & Boys

Off and running for League competition the Northeast Kansas League runners were on Thursday and it was ultimately some repeat winners highlighting the action. 

The girl’s team title belonged to the Jackson Heights Cobras as they won by 17 points over Maur Hill-Mount Academy who finished second. Pleasant Ridge and Jefferson County North girl’s placed third and fourth to finish out the team standings. In the boys competition the Pleasant Ridge Rams won the team title for the fourth-straight year winning by 16 points. Jackson Heights boys took second, while Maur Hill-Mount Academy placed third. JCN, Valley Falls, Mclouth and Horton finished fourth through seventh as teams. 

Three Top 10 finishes and six Top 20 finishes helped guide the Pleasant Ridge Ram boys to first place as a team and leading the way was Luke Oatney claimed the individual title with a time of 16:36.47 by 33 seconds, winning his fourth NEKL title. Dayton Flack and Garrett Silvers grabbed third and seventh place finishes with times of 18:04.62 and 18:33.97. Westen Jackson, Noah Trader and TJ Young placed 16th, 18th and 20th for the Ram boys. The lady Rams were led by Olivia Haack who with a time of 24:12.94 took tenth place, while Grace Dedeke and Sara Nooner placed 11th and 12th. Kaylie Warden, Madelin Gould and Gabie Piche also finished in the Top 20 for the lady Rams earning 17th, 19th and 20th place finishes. 

Jackson Heights saw Faith Little win her third-straight NEKL title as she posted a time of 21:29.38 to win the girls race by nearly 39 seconds. Her teammates Shelby Phillips and Hanna Davault finished right behind her placing second and third with times of 22:08.03 and 22:08.84. Trinity McMahon, Skyla Howe and Jill Buck added Top 20 showings for the lady Cobras placing 14th, 15th and 18th. The Cobra boys were led by Dalton Chartier who finished eighth with a time of 18:58.69, while Xavier Fritz took 11th, AJ Mock placed 12th, Drew Holliday finished 15th and Kolten Brenner placed 17th. 

Seven runners notched Top 20 finishes for Maur Hill-Mount Academy led by Ayden Black in the boys race who placed second with a time of 17:09.81, while Isaiah Price earned fourth (18:16.15) and Jake Heim finished 19th. In the girls race Sara Domann finished seventh (23:54.09), while Erica Laureano placed eighth (23:55.43). Dorothy Hoopes grabbed ninth place for the lady Ravens (18:59.18), while August Forsberg placed 14th. 

Mclouth Bulldogs were led on the day by Baylee Wolfe who placed fourth in the girls race (22:12.78) while Ceara Funk followed suit finishing fifth (23:00.18). On the boys side of action Kody Driskill raced to a ninth place finish (18:59.18) while August Forsberg earned 14th.

A pair of sixth place finishes led the JCN Chargers as Rose Wendling (23:34.09) and Trevor Pentlin (18:21.27) placed sixth in the girls and boys races. Gretchen Babcock also finished in the Top 20 for the lady Chargers earning 16th place. 

Horton Chargers were led by Skye Joe Coversup as he placed with time a time of 18:18.41. 

Justin Shufflebager led Oskaloosa placing 10th in the boy’s race after posting a time of 19:00.65. 

Valley Falls was led by Noah Hefty who earned 13th place in the boy’s competition.
