Sabetha, Perry Lecompton & Marysville Girls Tennis Athlete's Compete at State

4A Girls Tennis State Results - Singles & Doubles 

A trio of area schools were represented at the first State competition of the 2017-18 school year as girls tennis athlete's from Sabetha, Perry Lecompton and Marysville were all in action. 

In Class 4A Marysvile Bulldogs finished sixth as a team in competition overall after a fifth and seventh place finish by a singles player and doubles team. Shelby Downard earned fifth place in singles action going 4-1 in action. After a first round bye Downard won 4-6, 6-1, (12-10) but then lost 2-6, 2-6 falling to the consolation bracket side. A 9-5 and 9-7 win by Shelby pushed her into the fifth place match where she posted a 9-6 victory. Also in action in singles competition on the day for Marysville was Seirra Becker who went 0-2. The doubles tandem of Holly Holthaus and Avery Williams who won a Regional title finished seventh at State going 3-2 in action. After a first round bye Holthaus and Williams won their first match 6-3, 6-1 but then fell 4-6, 3-6 moving into the consolation bracket. The duo bounced back in their next match to win 9-4 but then fell in the next contest moving into the seventh place match where Holthaus and Williams finished the State competition strong with a 9-4 win. The duo of Haley Bruna and Sarah Roberts was also in action at State in doubles competition and went 0-2. 

At the Class 3-2-1A competition both Perry Lecompton and Sabetha was represented at Prairie Villlage. Perry Lecompton girls placed seventh as a team at State behind the performance of the doubles team of Graci Folks and Sammy Worthington who went 4-2 to place sixth. Folks and Worthington won in the first round 6-0, 6-0 and then posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory but fell in the Quarterfinals 2-6, 4-6. The duo bounced back with two wins 9-6 and 9-2 in the consolation bracket but fell in the final match of the day 4-9 to take sixth place. Ella Barrett was in action for the Kaws in singles competition and went 0-2 in competition. 

Sabetha Bluejays had a doubles team and a singles competition in action at State. In singles action Kirsten Wenger competed for the Bluejays and went 0-2 in competition. Doubles competition saw the tandem of Kinsey Menold and Hannah Wertenberger in action for Sabetha as they went 0-2 at State.
