Five Area Football Teams In Rankings Across State After Week 7

Only two weeks remain in the regular season and the games importance level grow as teams look to earn a playoff spot in their respective classification. Headed into Week eight action only a few area teams have seen their playoff hopes officially dashed and look to just finish the season strong and perhaps play spoiler while several teams are in great position to make the playoffs. Also five area teams are in at least one poll this week with the big shake up happening in Class 2-1A. 

The Nemaha Central Thunder extended their Big Seven win streak to 21 games with a 21-7 win over rival Sabetha to open District play and improved to 7-0 in the process. The Thunder continue to sit atop the perch ranked #1 in Class 3A polls across the State. Three other teams continue to get looks in the 3A polls including Sabetha who now sits at 6-1 after the loss to Nemaha Central, while Perry Lecompton is 5-2 after routing Royal Valley last week and Marysville is now 6-1 after beating up on Beloit last week. 

Hanover Wildcats continue to crush the competition winning another game by halftime beating Frankfort 60-0. The win pushes Hanover to 7-0 on the season and the Wildcats are one of only two 8-Man DII undefeated teams and continue to hold the #1 ranking. The Axtell Eagles picked up a huge win at home over Wakefield to position themselves for a playoff spot and now are 5-2 and are getting looks in the 8-Man DII polls. In 8-Man DI the Clifton-Clyde Eagles are 6-1 and continue to get looks in the rankings as the Eagles topped Centre last week. 

Class 2-1A features three area teams in the rankings this week. The Jefferson County North Chargers continue to be ranked checking in at #3 in most polls but do rank #2 in the VarsityKansas poll. The Chargers are 7-0 on the season after routing Doniphan West 54-8 last week. Jackson Heights Cobras won a battle of unbeaten against Valley Heights 44-40 to move to 7-0 and jump into the rankings at #5 in several polls after the win. While Centralia Panthers jump into the rankings this week at #4 in the Kpreps 2-1A rankings after winning 50-6 over Wabaunsee last week to move to 5-2 on the season. Valley Heights with the loss to Jackson Heights is now 6-1 on the season and while falling out of the rankings are still getting looks for the polls. 

Holton Wildcats continue to get looks in the 4A-DII rankings as they sit at 5-2 after a win over Jeff West.
