For the first time since 2011 the Holton Wildcats volleyball team will compete at the State tournament as the Wildcats pounced on the Sub-State title on their home floor over the weekend to earn a berth into the 4A-DII State tournament.

Needing only a pair of wins to win Sub-State Holton faced off with Marysville in the Semifinals of Sub-State and captured a straight set win 25-21, 25-20 in a tight battle. In the Championship contest it was an even tougher matchup as Holton squared off against Chapman and the match needed three sets to be decided. Holton took a tight set one 25-21 but dropped a tight set two 23-25 to push the match to a third and decisive set. In the third set Holton had a run of 10-straight points in the latter part of the set and captured the set 25-17 to win the match.

The win moves Holton to 23-17 on the season and into the Class 4A-DII State tournament in Salina at Tony's Pizza Events Center. The trip to State also marks the first time Holton will be at State since 2011 when they finished fourth in Class 4A. Wildcats will open pool play Friday October 27th at 3:30pm versus Burlington, then play Nickerson at 6:30pm and wrap up pool play against Frontenac at 7:30pm.  All games will be broadcast live on KNZA 103.9 FM.
