21 Area Football Players Earn All-State Honors, While Several Others Named Honorable Mention

The 2017 high school football season will be one to remember in Northeast Kansas as a pair of area teams captured State titles and many others put together great seasons. A total of 21 area athletes earned All-State honors by at least one publication, while three guys earned Top 33 honors.

Class 3A saw a champion crowned in the area as the Sabetha Bluejays finished the year 13-1 and beat Marysville for the school's third State title. Elliot Strahm, Cole Oehm and Wyatt Beyer all picked up All-State honors for the Bluejays after their State Championship season. Strahm was also named third team Top 33 by the Capital Journal. Marysville Bulldogs who finished State runner-up with a 12-2 record had both Jack Blumer and Gabe Pieschl earn All-State honors; Blumer also got the nod by Capital Journal for second team Top 33. The Nemaha Central Thunder once again had a strong year finishing 10-1 and both Mitchell Henry and Eli McWilliams picking up All-State honors. Henry was also named third team Top 33 by the Capital Journal. Maur Hill-Mount Academy Raven, Cole Harris also picked up All-State honors in Class 3A.

The other State championship in the area was captured by the Hanover Wildcats who repeated as the 8-Man Division II State Champs finishing 13-0 on the season. The trio of Carlos Emanuel, Daiken Stallbaumer and Kevin Diederich for Hanover all earned All-State honors. Hanover Wildcat head coach, Matt Heuer was also named Coach of the Year by the Capital Journal. While Axtell Eagles, Hunter Koch and Quinn Buessing both were named All-State in 8-Man DII.

Class 2-1A had six players named All-State from Centralia, Valley Heights, Jefferson County North and Jackson Heights each had All-State honorees. Centralia Panthers finished the season 8-3 and both Derek VanDorn and Trenton Flentie each picked up All-State honors, while Valley Heights Mustangs posted a 7-2 record and had Harrison Blaske earn All-State honors. JCN Chargers went 10-1 on the year and had both Jacob Schrick and Ridge Robertson pick up All-State honors, while Jackson Heights Cobras posted an 8-2 mark on the year and had Brady Holliday pick up All-State honors.

In Class 4A-Division II the Holton Wildcats went 7-4 on the year and had a pair of All-State honorees as Dylan Aeschliman and Kyler Tannahill each got the nod.

Several more area athletes picked up honorable mention All-State honors in their classifications. (Full list of area honorees listed below)
