Fifteen Area High School Basketball Teams Ranked in Latest KBCA Rankings

The high school basketball season is underway for most teams after action late last week, while a few area teams will tipoff the hoops season this week. Fifteen teams check in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings. 

Class 1A-Division I continues to feature six area teams in the polls between the girls and boys. Both the Hanover Wildcat girls and boys remain ranked #1 in the latest rankings and are set to open their seasons this week. Centralia Panther girls opened the year beating fellow 1A-DI ranked team in Valley Falls in the first game of the season winning 57-56. The Panthers remain ranked #2 in the polls and the Dragons remain at #7. The Washington County girls opened the year with a 55-39 win over Clifton-Clyde and jump up two spots in the rankings this week to #8. While the Doniphan West Mustang boys check in again at #3 in the latest 1A-DI polls and opened the season with a 53-30 win over Onaga. 

Four teams find themselves ranked in Class 3A with the highest ranking belonging to the Nemaha Central Thunder girls who remain at #2 in the polls after beating a ranked Jeff West team 41-30 in the season opener. In the boys rankings three Big Seven League teams are in the polls this week. The Nemaha Central boys come in at #4 again after beating Jeff West 59-40 to open the year, while Perry Lecompton who beat Holton 51-44 to open the year moved down one spot to #8. Sabetha Bluejays jump into the rankings coming in at #10 after a 1-1 start to the year beating Riverside 53-34 and falling to a ranked Marysville team 59-47. 

A trio of teams remain ranked in Class 4A-Division II polls this week. In the girls rankings a pair of Big Seven League teams are in the polls as Jeff West girls remain at #2 despite a 41-30 lost to a ranked Nemaha Central Thunder to open the season. The Holton Wildcat girls fall one spot to #9 in the rankings this week after opening the season with a 57-19 rout of Perry Lecompton. Marysville boys opened the season #3 in 4A-DII and remain there in the rankings after opening the season 2-0 with a 82-24 win over Axtell and 59-47 victory over Sabetha. 

Class 2-1A has two area girls teams in the latest KBCA rankings as both Jefferson County North and Valley Heights remain ranked at #5 and #8, respectively. JCN girls won in big fashion 44-12 in their season opener over Mclouth, while Valley Heights suffered a 52-30 loss in their season opener to Riley County. 

The basketball season continues this week; make sure to tune into coverage of area games every Tuesday and Friday throughout the season on 103.9 KNZA, 92.1 KMZA and KAIR 93.7 FM along with the Holton and Sabetha Channels.
