Frankfort Wildcat Girls Cruise & Boys Use Strong Fourth Quarter to Top Washington County

Frankfort Wildcats win the battle of the cats against Washington County on the hardwood as the lady Wildcats routed the Tigers 61-39 and the boys used a strong fourth quarter to secure the 47-38 win.

GIRLS

Behind contribution from several players and a pair of strong runs early the Frankfort Wildcat girls remained unbeaten on the season claiming the 61-39 win over Washington County.

Up just 3-2 early the Wildcats suddenly fell down 7-3 but out of a timeout a 5-0 burst by the hands of Emilee Ebert pushed Frankfort back into the lead and the Wildcats would finish the first quarter outscoring Washington County 18-5 to lead 21-12 after one frame. Ebert and Kennen Brandt led Frankfort in the first quarter with eight points each, while Tess Cecrle did her best to keep the Tigers in the contest scoring 10 points in the first quarter. Frankfort added to their lead in the second quarter using a 13-5 run that spanned the first four minutes of the quarter as the Wildcats outscored the Tigers 20-10 in the quarter to lead 41-22 at the half. Jessa Yaussi spear headed the offense with all eight of her points coming in the second stanza. The Wildcats used the big lead to cruise to the 61-39 win.

Ebert led Frankfort on the night with 17 points despite being in foul trouble at times and earned Community National Bank “Player to Bank On” honors on the KMZA. Brandt chipped in 12 points on the night, while Alli Tommer posted a 10 point night scoring eight points in the fourth quarter. Frankfort with the win improved to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in Twin Valley League play.

Washington County with the loss is now 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in TVL action as Cecrle led the team on the night with 13 points, while Grace Otott chipped in nine points.

Up next Frankfort will host Valley Heights on Friday night, while Washington County travels to Wakefield.

BOYS

In search of win number one both teams were in the boys contest between Washington County and Frankfort and it was nip and tuck contest until the fourth quarter when the Wildcats pounce on the their opportunity and earned the win 47-38.

Washington County worked to a 7-4 advantage by the 2:18 mark in the first quarter leading to a Frankfort timeout and out of the timeout the Wildcats saw Brandon Anderson net a three-pointer to tie the game and Gavin Cornelison two-point bucket gave the Frankfort the 9-7 lead after one quarter. That lead ballooned up to as high as to at 22-12 in the second quarter but the Wildcats had to hold of Washington County just before the half to hold a 26-22 lead. Frankfort’s lead quickly disappeared early in the second half as the Tigers tied the contest and eventually took the lead outscoring Frankfort 13-7 in the third to led 35-33 entering the fourth quarter. The Wildcat’s didn’t waver as they buckled down and finished the game strong with a 14-3 fourth quarter to take the win 47-38.

A trio of guys in double figures led Frankfort on the night as Cornelison netted 13 points to lead the charge and his performance earned him Community National Bank “Player to Bank On” honors on KMZA. Brandon Anderson had this third double figure game of the season finishing with 11 points going 6-8 from the free throw line, while Mitchell Olson recorded 10 points. With the win Frankfort improved to 1-2 on the season.

Washington County in the loss was led by Carson Talkington who tallied 14 points, while Riley Moore finished with 11 points with eight coming in the second quarter. The loss sends Washington County to 0-2 to open the year.

Up next Frankfort will host Valley Heights on Friday night, while Washington County travels to Wakefield.
