Despite a slow start, the Sabetha girls basketball team remained unbeaten in Big 7 League play Friday night with a 54-35 win at home over ACCHS.

Neither team got off to a hot start shooting the basketball as both sides struggled to get into a flow with Sabetha taking a 9-8 lead after the first quarter.

A 3-pointer by ACCHS junior Ashton Appel at the first quarter buzzer got the Lady Tigers going, as ACCHS hit three treys in the second quarter and outscored Sabetha 15-6 in the frame to take a 23-15 lead into halftime.

The Lady Tigers led by as many as 12 points in the second quarter, but a quick 4-0 run to end the half allowed the Lady Jays to stay within striking distance.

Sabetha carried that momentum into the third quarter, as the Lady Jays forced seven ACCHS turnovers and outscored the Lady Tigers 19-2 in the quarter to take a 34-25 lead into the fourth.

Sabetha never looked back from there, scoring 20 more points in the fourth quarter to go on to win by 19.

Lady Jays junior Jessica Payne dominated the paint for Sabetha in the second half, scoring 16 of her game-high 18 points in the final two frames.

Sabetha (3-1, 3-0 Big 7) now gets set for a critical matchup with Nemaha Central (3-0, 3-0) Tuesday, while ACCHS (1-2, 0-2) hosts Jeff West (2-1, 1-1)
