Nemaha Central Sweeps Royal Valley - Macke Drops 31 & Coach Thomas Wins 400th

The Thunder sounded loudly on Friday night on the road for the Nemaha Central girls and boys to both remain unbeaten on the season as they topped Royal Valley in Hoyt. The Thunder girls led by Laura Macke cruised to 67-45 win, while the Nemaha Central boys won 72-52 to earn Coach Jon Thomas his 400th career win. 

GIRLS

Nemaha Central started strong and it was Kansas State commit, Laura Macke that speared headed the performance as the Thunder found themselves up 18-6 after the first quarter with Macke scoring 10 in the first frame. The lead grew in the second quarter as Nemaha Central outscored Royal Valley 17-8 in the second and led 35-14 at halftime with Macke netting 20 points in the first half. The Thunder went on to cruise to the victory on the road having nine different scorers on the night to help them earn the 67-45 win. 

Macke put on a show dominating the action as she finished with 31 points with 20 in the first half earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on 92.1 KMZA. Jacy Dalinghaus chipped in 10 points for the lady Thunder as they improved to 5-0 on the season and 5-0 in Big Seven play. 

In the loss Royal Valley was led by Mary Broxterman who posted 16 points including eight point in the fourth quarter. Kenzie Ogden added nine points for the Panthers as Royal Valley with the loss fell to 4-1 and 2-2 in the Big Seven. 

Both teams have one game before the holiday break on Tuesday, December 19th as Nemaha Central will host Hiawatha and Royal Valley travels to Riverside.

BOYS 

It was tight early and overall in the first half and even the first part of the second half but a huge run to end the third quarter propelled Nemaha Central to the win and Coach Jon Thomas to a milestone win his 400th in his coaching career. 

Tied at 7-7 in the first quarter it would remain tight but the Thunder led 16-13 after the first quarter that lead moved to seven by halftime as Nemaha Central led 32-25. Behind a stretch run by Masen Spoonhunter for Royal Valley to start the second half the Panthers closed to within two-points at 35-33 going on an 8-3 run but the Thunder had an answer. Nemaha Central finished the third quarter on a 23-0 run after the Panthers closed to within two-points as the Thunder ultimately posted a 26-8 third quarter. Royal Valley tired another run to start the fourth quarter going on a 9-2 spurt but faced a large deficit and Nemaha Central earned the 72-52 win. 

Cole Kramer led Nemaha Central on the night tallying his fourth double figure game of the season scoring 19 points. While, Mitchell Henry tallied an 18 point game scoring nine-points in the big run in the third quarter earning him Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on 92.1 KMZA. Austin Gerety chipped in 12 points and Nemaha Central improved to 5-0 on the season and 5-0 in Big Seven action. 

Royal Valley battled foul trouble throughout the contest and was led by Masen Spoonhunter who set a good portion of the first half because of foul trouble but finished with 20 points. Darius Frisby chipped in 10 points as the Panthers fell to 1-4 on the season and 1-3 in the Big Seven.
