GIRLS = Horton 52, Doniphan West 38

In a battle of 2-2 teams, Horton jumped to an 11-4 advantage at home and never trailed while outscoring Doniphan West in all four quarters.  Kaitlyn McAfee scored in every quarter and hit two first-half treys to help Horton establish a 23-17 halftime lead and McAfee finish with 12 points.  Tatum Lockwood added 10 points and fellow sophomore, Maryann Randall finished strong with 10 of her 13 points in the fourth period while Kailea Smith chipped in seven points.

Doniphan West was plagued by 26 turnovers in their third straight loss and made just four field goals in the first half while Shayna Wilson led the Mustangs with 13 points and Heidi Leach had all seven of her points in the second quarter.  Doniphan West played without their top two returning scorers from last year as MaKinley Smith hopes to see her first action when D-West returns from the holiday break to play at Wetmore and Calli Caudle is now out with an injury as well.

BOYS = Doniphan West 52, Horton 39

Horton had a 4-0 lead before Doniphan West erupted with a 19-2 run that included a trio of three-pointers from Devin Taylor.  Horton never got closer than the 21-15 score in the second stanza as the Mustangs took advantage of 24 turnovers.  It was 52-30 before the Chargers scored the final nine points of the game and fell to 0-5 on the season while D-West improved to 5-0 heading into the break as the #3 ranked team in Class 1A Division I.

Taylor finished with 14 points while Newt Smith led the way with 16, Clayton Ridout added 11 and Luke Blevins chipped in eight.  Horton got eight from Nathan Isaacs before he fouled out and Craig Wahwahsuck added seven. The Chargers will host Oskaloosa on Tuesday to finish the December schedule.
