Oskaloosa Wrestlers Take Seventh at Burlington Invite

The Oskaloosa Bears wrestlers took to the mats at the Burlington Invitational on Saturday and competed with over 20 other teams in action. 

Behind 79.5 points the Bears earned seventh out of 23 schools competing on the day. Five top six finishes led the Bears on the day. 

A 3-0 day led the way for Oskaloosa as Jared Miller won all three of his matches to take first place at 182lbs. Miller after a first round bye he picked up a pinfall win in 1:43 in the Quarterfinals then snagged another pinfall win in the Semifinals winning in 2:44. In the Championship bout Miller beat a grappler from Humboldt winning by pinfall once again this time in 2:38. 

Eli King earned the second best performance for Oskaloosa on the day by finishing third at 170lbs going 3-1 in action. Back to back pinfall wins of 1:51 and 1:41 pushed King into the Semifinals where in a tough battle he fell by pinfall. King bounced back in the third place match by ending his day with a quick pinfall win in 39 seconds to earn third place. 

Both Triston Hopkins (145lbs) and Colby Peck (195lbs) registered fifth place finishes on the day for the Bears. Peck had a 3-2 day on the picking up all three wins by pinfall, while Hopkins recorded a 4-1 day on the day mats notching wins by technical fall, pinfall (0:41) and by decisions 4-0 & 5-0.

A 1-2 day on the mats earned Christopher King sixth place at 220lbs picking up his lone win of the day by 9-2 decision. 

Peyton Taliaferro (113lbs), Kaleb Frisbe (106lbs) and Lucas Hatfield (138lbs) all were also in action for the Bears. 

Oskaloosa takes to the mats again on Saturday, January 20th at the Holton Invitational.
