Kanzaland Area Wrestlers Start Year Ranked

It's winter sports season and the action is about to get into full swing with not only basketball but wrestling across the Kanzaland area, as well. Nineteen area wrestlers will the mat's preseason ranked in their respective classification and weight class and one team starts the season ranked in the top in their classification.

Sights are set on a successful season and bids into the state tournament for many area wrestlers as last season over 50 area wrestlers made it to state and one captured a state title with other many top five finishes.

In Class 3-2-1A, two area wrestlers start the season off ranked number one in their respective weight classes as Tyler Edelman of Sabetha and Jared Johnson of Pleasant Ridge both seniors start the year ranked number one in the weight classes of 195 and 152 pounds, respectively. Doniphan West, sophomore, Tristan Speer joins Edelman in the 195lbs rankings checking in at fifth, while in the 152lb rankings Trevor Fee, a junior from Doniphan West joins Johnson in the rankings, starting the season ranked fourth.

Eight other Kanzaland area wrestlers start the season ranked in the top six of their respective weight classes in Class 3-2-1A start the season. Marysville Bulldogs seniors, Josh Goepfert and James Landoll are ranked third and second, respectively in the weight classes of 106 and 138lbs. ACCHS Tigers, also have a pair of wrestlers preseason ranked as juniors, Justin Wagner and Zakk Hollands rank fourth and sixth in the weight classes of 126 and 132lbs, respectively.

Sabetha and Pleasant Ridge both have another wrestler in the rankings, also as Levin Huneke of Sabetha is ranked third in the weight class of 182lbs, while Blake Graham of Pleasant Ridge ranks fifth in the 120lb weight class to start the year. The other three spots in the rankings taken by area wrestlers in Class 3-2-1A belong to a wrestler from Centralia, Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Horton. Centralia's, Andrew Beck ranks fourth in the 120lb weight class, Maur Hill's Cody Calhoon ranks fifth in the 132lb weight class and Little Bear Johnson of Horton checks in at sixth to start the year in the 220lb weight class.

As a team the Sabetha Bluejays highlight things on the mat as they start off the season ranked tenth in Class 3-2-1A.

In Class 4A, six area wrestlers start the season preseason ranked has they gear up for action on the mat. Four Holton Wildcats start the season ranked in their respective weight class with senior, Hunter Price leading the way ranked second in the 120lb weight class. Juniors, Jonah Lutz, Andrew Rieschick and Drake Ewing all start the season ranked at fifth, fourth and sixth in their respective weight classes of 113, 160 and 195lbs.

The highest preseason ranking for a Kanzaland area wrestlers in Class 4A goes to a Jeff West Tiger in junior, Justin Scott who ranks number one in the weight class of 220lbs. Royal Valley Panther, Tanner Ogden also starts the season ranked in the weight class of 145lbs, checking in at number three.

This wrestling season sets up to potentially be another great one for the Kanzaland area wrestlers as many have their sights set on the state tournament.
