Jeff West Girls Win Tonganoxie Tourney - Murdie MVP

The Jeff West girls basketball team has now won eight straight games and was dominating in cruising to the Championship at the Tonganoxie Invitational this past week.  The Lady Tigers earned the title with a 42-27 victory against DeSoto after beating Eudora 36-21 in the semifinals Friday and posting an opening round 48-12 triumph against the host Tonganoxie.  Jeff West  outscored their opposition by a combined 127-60 margin and did not allow any teams to post more than nine points in any quarter.  

In the championship game, Jeff West held DeSoto to just three points in each of the first two quarters and led 24-6 at halftime. Mariah Murdie had 17 points and 13 rebounds while Jordan Negonsott and Zoe Holthaus each chipped in nine points. 

Against Eudora, Jordan and Aaliyah Negonsott both scored 11 points and combined for a trio of three-pointers while Aaliyah added eight rebounds and six steals.  Jeff West jumped to an 8-2 lead and held a 28-12 advantage going into the fourth quarter. 

Against Tonganoxie, Jeff West used a 16-0 second quarter to take control of the game and also pitched a shutout in the final frame.  Aaliyah Negonsott scored 25 points while adding seven rebounds, six steals and a couple assists while Mariah Murdie had 17 points and 14 rebounds with a couple blocked shots. 

Murdie was named the Tourney MVP and was joined on the All-Tourney team by both Aaliyah and Jordan Negonsott.  The defending state runner-up Lady Tigers, ranked #5 in Class 4AD2, are now 11-2 overall and 7-2 in the Big 7 League this year with home games against Riverside and ACCHS following a week off.
