Hanover Sweeps Centralia On Road In Basketball Twinbill

Fresh off the Twin Valley League tournament Centralia played host to Hanover for a battle of ranked teams in the girls and boys hoops contests. Hanover girls despite trailing most of the game snagged a 52-51 win, while Wildcat boys earned a 61-45 victory over Centralia. 

GIRLS 

Centralia pounced early on the lead and led a majority of the contest but Hanover down the stretch took the lead and held off the Panthers for to sneak away with the 52-51 win. Panthers led by an 11-point first quarter from Morgan Kramer led 19-12 after the first quarter of action and that lead worked up to as high as 10 at 22-12 early in the second quarter. Hanover pushed back tying the game at 26-26 with 3:38 left in the first half and the Wildcats took their first lead of the game at 28-26 with 50 seconds left before halftime only to see Parker Bowers hit a three-pointer to give Centralia the 29-28 lead at the half. Macy Doebele led Hanover with 18 points in the first half, while Kramer had 16 at halftime for Centralia.

By the end of the third quarter the lead was four for Centralia at 40-36 but with 2:41 remaining in the game the lead was only one-point for the Panthers. Hanover then took a 50-48 lead and then led 52-51 in the final minute of the contest. Centralia played for the final shot and got two opportunities to earn the win but Katie Glatczak misfired from in the paint and her put back fell short too giving Hanover the 52-51 win. 

The win moved Hanover to 8-3 on the season as they were led by Doebele who scored 27 points and earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on 92.1 KMZA. The loss drops Centralia to 11-2 on the season. Panthers were led by Madison Lueger and Morgan Kramer who scored 19 and 16 points, respectively. 

Hanover continues the season on Friday night at home when they host Wetmore and Centralia is next in action against Rock Creek at home next Tuesday.

BOYS

Hanover pounced on the early lead against Centralia and didn't look back in the contest earning the 61-45 win. The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-0 start in the contest and led 15-6 after the first quarter of play moving the lead to 35-17 by halftime with a 20-11 second quarter. Hanover was balanced scoring all night and headed into halftime that way with eight different scorers in the first half. Centralia fought back into the game several times but all their advances were fended off by Hanover as the Wildcats finished off the game for the 61-45 win. 

The win moves Hanover to 10-1 on the season and the Wildcats were led by Thomas Atkins who scored 13 points and Carter Bruna who added 12 points. Bruna earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on 92.1 KMZA in the win, while the Wildcats were a balanced scoring team on the night as nine different guys scored. 

Centralia with the loss fell to 8-6 on the season with all six losses to currently ranked teams. Kamble Haverkamp led Centralia with 14 points in the loss and Daegan Steinlage added 10pts.

Hanover continues the season on Friday night at home when they host Wetmore and Centralia is next in action against Rock Creek at home next Tuesday.
