Two area wrestling squads stepped well out of the area to continue their seasons on Saturday as Riverside and Doniphan West wrestlers both compete at the Shawnee Mission North Invite.
Riverside Cyclones put together a strong day to earn sixth place as a team out of 16 teams finishing with 121 points. A pair of first place finishes paced the Cyclones on the day as Beau Horn (126lbs) and Scott Resler (145lbs) each took first. Horn went 3-0 in action starting with a pinfall win in 3:34 in the Quarterfinals. In the Semifinals Horn earned a 17-0 technical fall victory and then registered a 7-1 decision to win the Championship match. Resler posted a 4-0 day at 145lbs to take first starting off with a pair of pinfall wins in 45 and 49 seconds, then in the Semifinals earning a 9-1 major decision win. In the Championship bout Resler finished his day on the mat with a 12-2 major decision win.
A 2-1 performance earned Jacob MacKnight second place at 195lbs for the Cyclones earning a pair of pinfall wins in 4:49 and 4:54 before falling in the Championship by pinfall. Three other Cyclone grapplers earned fourth place finishes at the Shawnee Mission North Invite. Brayden Seimears (160lbs) registered a 3-2 day on the mats, while both Kinstin Juhl (152lbs) and Luke Horn (138lbs) each went 2-2 to earn fourth place.
Also in action for Riverside at the Shawnee Mission North Invite - Derrick Karn (132lbs) 2-2 record, Matt Mitchell (170lbs) 1-2 record, Kaedin Juhl (182lbs) 2-2 record and Jacob Smith (285lbs) 0-2 record.
Doniphan West who only had five wrestlers in action earned ninth place as a team on the day. A pair of third place finishes led Doniphan West on the day as both Carter Jensen (126lbs) and Zeb Speer (160lbs) each posted performances to earn them third place. A 4-1 day by Jensen earned him third place after a loss in the Quarterfinals and then responded with four pinfall wins. Speer went 3-1 in action picking up a pair of pinfall wins and a technical fall to take third place.
