Atchison played host to their annual George Worley wrestling Invitational with several area teams in action on the mats.
Leading the area performances were the Royal Valley Panther wrestlers who behind 160 total points won the tournament team title by 30 points topping 14 other wrestling teams. The host Atchison earned third place as a team finishing only seven and half points out of second place. Oskaloosa, Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Pleasant Ridge registered fifth, sixth and seventh place finishes as teams, while Jeff West, ACCHS and Onaga notched team finishes of ninth, 13th and 14th, respectively.
Eight Top four finishes paced Royal Valley on the day of action on their way to their first place as a team. A 3-0 day by Bryce Garrison at 160lbs earned him first place individually to lead Royal Valley as he recorded a 18-2 technical fall win, 16-5 major decision and pinfall in 2:11 in the Championship bout. Nate Buchtel (195lbs), Karsen Smith (152lbs) and Dalton Ware (120lbs) all posted 2-1 records to earn second place. Buchtel recorded a pair of pinfall wins (2:12 & 1:22), while Smith won by pinfall (1:35) and 3-2 decision and Ware recorded a pinfall win (1:39) and 19-3 technical fall.
Judson Mathis (113lbs) and Brian Shane (220lbs) each posted a 3-1 record and earned third place for the Panthers. Alberto Tinajero (285lbs) and Stiles Travis (132lbs) each went 1-2 in action and earned fourth place.
The host Atchison was led by seven Top four finishes on their home mats. Nick Funk (285lbs), Gavin Rebant (132lbs), Jayden Watkins (126lbs) and Cayden Dotson (106lbs) all recorded second place finishes for Atchison on the day all going 2-1. Funk and Rebant each notched a pair of pinfall wins coming in 56 and 36 seconds for Funk and 4:43 and 1:00 for Rebant. Watkins posted a pinfall win in 3:15 and major decision 10-2 win, while Dotson won by pinfall 1:48 and decision 7-2. Collin Moranz (160lbs) and Brent Clary (285lbs) went 3-1 and 2-1, respectively each earning third place. While, Riley Smith (195lbs) posted a 1-2 performance taking fourth place.
Four Oskaloosa Bears had really strong showings as Triston Hopkins (145lbs), Eli King (170lbs), Jared Miller (182lbs) and Colby Peck (195lbs) each finished unbeaten on the day to take first place. Hopkins posted a 3-0 record winning by pinfall 1:09 and decision twice 6-0 and 4-3, while King went 3-0 with two pinfall wins in 3:08 and 42 seconds and an 11-5 decision. Miller notched a 3-0 day for first place with three pinfall wins in 1:03, 1:25 and 1:25, while Peck posted a 2-0 mark winning by pinfall 1:08 and 6-1 decision.
Maur Hill-Mount Academy was led by a individual champion as Conner Wilson (152lbs) went 3-0 to take first winning by pinfall 2:58, decision 5-1 and major decision 13-2. William Humburg (132lbs) recorded a 2-1 to take third place for the Ravens, while five Raven grapplers earned fourth place. Leif Malm (113lbs), Jack Pickman (126lbs), Blake Mispagel (138lbs), Benedict Humburg (160lbs), August Malm (170lbs) all earned fourth place finishes. Leif Malm, Pickman and Humberg each posted 2-2 records on the day, while both Mispagel and August Malm each went 4-2.
Leading the way for Pleasant Ridge was the performance of Trevor Ragland (106lbs) who behind a 3-0 day on the mats took first place winning by pinfall in 58 seconds, decision 9-3, and decision 5-0. Luke Oatney (138lbs) earned second place after going 2-1 recording a pinfall win in 4:39 and techicnal fall 19-3. Robert Gwartney (170lbs) posted a 4-1 mark on the mats to take third place, while Seth Beying (182lbs) went 2-2 to earn fourth place.
Kody Gibson (138lbs) of Jeff West led the Tigers performances at Atchison taking first place by going 3-0 with a pair of pinfall wins in 1:51 and 1:32 along with a 6-4 decision. Joel Scott (145lbs) went 2-1 with a major decision win and a 3-1 decision win to take second place, while Shane Kelly (126lbs) went 3-1 to finish third place.
ACCHS Tigers were led by Brodie Page (113lbs) who went 2-1 with a pair of pinfall wins in 1:10 and 1:52 to take second, while Colton Scholz (120lbs) went 4-2 taking fourth place.
Onaga had one Top four finisher on the day as Kedric Ames (152lbs) went 3-2 to earn fourth place.
