Both Jeff West teams put together big second half performances and dominated on the glass to claim 17 point home wins in the Big 7 League on Friday night in Meriden.

GIRLS = Jeff West 57, Royal Valley 40

The Lady Tigers won their 13th consecutive game and had four girls score in double figures with a balanced and very disciplined and well-executed offense.  Jeff West built a double-digit lead early at 19-9, before a 7-0 Royal Valley run and the Panthers cut the margin to two as the pace of the game picked up and both teams scored 17 points in the second quarter.  Leading 30-24 at halftime, Jeff West pulled way with a 15-7 third frame and pushed the lead to as many as 20 points in the last period to complete the season sweep.

Aaliyah Negonsott had 17 points to lead Jeff West while Mariah Murdie added 13 and Heather Kahler and Jordan Negonsott each had posted 10.  Zoe Holthaus had seven to round of the offense and was one of four players to make a three-pointer for the balanced Tigers who improved to 16-2 on the season and 12-2 in the Big 7 League.

Royal Valley was led by Tamo Thomas, who hit three treys and scored 13 points, while Mary Broxterman added 11 and Kiikto Thomas scored all seven of hers in the first half.  The Panthers had 17 turnovers and fell to 11-7 on the season and 8-6 in the Big 7 League with two games remaining, having already secured their first winning season since 2011.

BOYS = Jeff West 50, Royal Valley 33

Great defense and rebouding was the difference in this game, especially on the offensive glass where Jeff West had nearly 20 boards and half of those by Grant Thompson.  The Tigers led 10-0 out of the gate as Quinn Neuenswander scored eight of those points, but Royal Valley pulled within 10-8 at the end of one quarter and took a couple one points leads in the second frame, the last at 18-17.  Jeff West got a very impressive tip-in by Zeth Unruh to lead 22-19 at halftime and then used an 11-4 third quarter to put the game away.  Neuenswander scored 21 points to lead the Tigers while Josh Broxterman added 13 and Thompson had seven.  Jeff West was 17 of 22 from the foul-line to improve to 10-7 on the season and 10-4 in the Big 7 League.

Royal Valley played without one starter (third leading scorer), and their two leading scorers were held to one total field goal in the first three quarters combined.  The Panthers got eight points each from Komesh Spoonhunter and Keegan Shoptease off the bench but were only 3-11 at the charity stripe before falling to 6-12 on the season and 5-9 in the Big 7 League.
