Sixteen Area High School Basketball Teams Ranked in Latest KBCA Rankings

With the regular season in the books every high school basketball team in the State of Kansas as turned their attention to the postseason and earning a spot at the State tournament by winning their respective Sub-State. The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association has released their final rankings of the season leading into the postseason and 16 area teams find themselves in the polls this week again. 

Seven of the 16 area teams hail from Class 1A-Division I and of the seven not much change happened in their respective rankings this week. On the girls side the teams of Hanover, Centralia, Valley Falls and Frankfort rank #2, #3, #5 and #7 this week, respectively. Hanover girls remain ranked #2 after wrapping the regular season with a 15-3 record beating Doniphan West and Linn last week. While Centralia girls wrapped up the regular season with a 17-3 record picking up wins over Linn and Washington County last week. Valley Falls girls moved up one spot this week to #5 and sit at 18-2 on the season after beating Horton and Mclouth last week. Frankfort girls continue to hold the #7 spot in the rankings and finished the regular season with a 16-4 record picking up a win over Onaga last week. 

On the boys side the trio of Twin Valley League teams in Doniphan West, Hanover and Clifton-Clyde continue to hold the #2, #3 and #6 spot in the rankings. Doniphan West wrapped up their regular season with a loss to Hanover to sit at 15-4 on the season, while Hanover picked up that win over Doniphan West and also Linn to finish the regular season with a 17-1 record. Clifton-Clyde boys topped Valley Heights in the regular season finale to move to 16-3 on the year. 

Class 3A once again this week has four area teams in the polls with the #1 spot on the girls side again belonging to Nemaha Central. The lady Thunder finished the regular season with a win over Perry Lecompton to move to 18-2 on the season. For the boys side of the poll three area teams remain ranked lead by Maur Hill-Mount Academy who comes in at #5 in the polls this week again as they are 19-1 on the season after beating Pleasant Ridge and Oskaloosa last week. Nemaha Central boys move up one spot this week to #7 after beating Perry Lecompton in Overtime to finish the regular season 17-3, while the Kaws lost to Nemaha Central they beat Jeff West to finish their regular season 17-3 and also move up one spot in the rankings at #8 this week. 

A quartet of area teams continue to be housed in the Class 4A-Division II rankings. In the girls poll the Jeff West Tigers continue to hold the #4 spot as they sit at 17-2 on the season after beating Perry Lecompton last week. Marysville girls moved up one spot to #5 this week finishing the regular season 15-4 after beating Rock Creek last week, while the Holton girls remain ranked #7 as they are 15-5 after beating Riverside, Sabetha and Hiawatha last week. Marysville boys also remain ranked in 4A-DII as they moved up one spot to #4 this week and finished the regular season with a 16-3 record beating Rock Creek to wrap up the regular season. 

Class 2A polls continue to feature only one area team in the rankings as the Jefferson County North girls come in at #10 again this week. JCN girls finished the regular season with a 16-3 record beating Lebo and Oskaloosa last week. 

Teams now turn their attention to Sub-State this week and know it's win or gone home as they look to battle their way to the State tournament.
