Valley Falls & Frankfort Girls Head to Sub-State Championship With Wins

In perhaps of the toughest 1A-Division I girls Sub-State's in the State it will be Valley Falls and Frankfort squaring off for the Sub-State Championship after Semifinal wins on Friday. Valley Falls topped Doniphan West 54-30, while Frankfort earned the win over Centralia 48-37. 

Valley Falls 54-30 over Doniphan West

The Valley Falls Dragons flew out to an early 8-1 lead and led 14-1 before Doniphan got their first field of the game coming at around 1:42 mark of the first quarter as the Dragons led 14-3 after one frame. That led grew by halftime as Doniphan West struggled to score and turnover the ball over at a high rate helping Valley Falls led 27-9 at intermission. The Dragons used that strong start partnered with a 17-23 night from the free throw line and forcing over 30 Mustang turnovers to secure the 54-30 win. 

With the win Valley Falls moves to 20-2 on the season and extended their win streak to 15-straight games. Rachel Frakes and Reagan Kirkwood led the way for the Dragons each netting 17 points and earning Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA together. 

Doniphan West with the loss finished their season 8-14. Makinley Smith led the Mustangs with 11 points. 

Valley Falls now will vie for the Sub-State Championship on Saturday, March 3rd at Frankfort at 6:00pm against Frankfort as the Dragons look to make State for the fourth straight year, having finished Top four the previous three years in Class 2A. 

Frankfort 48-37 over Centralia

The battle of USD 380 on Friday night belonged to Frankfort winning a battle against Centralia. Centralia hit the intial bucket of the contest a three-pointer from Katie Glatczak but the senior went down with and injury and would not return. The Panthers led until the 3:15 mark when Frankfort took an 10-8 and the Wildcats led 13-12 after one quarter. Wildcats lead grew to eight in the second quarter but Centralia closed the first half strong to close within one-point and trail just 24-23. Centralia got the first bucket of the second half to take the 25-24 lead but Frankfort put together a run and led 37-29 after three quarters. The lead moved to double figures in the fourth quarter and Frankfort secured the 48-37 win. 

Frankfort with the win moved to 18-4 on the season and were led by Emilee Ebert who scored 23 points earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. The win also snapped a seven-game losing for the Wildcats to Centralia. 

Centralia with the loss wrapped up their season 18-4 as Madison Lueger led the team with 11 points in the loss. 

Frankfort now will vie for the Sub-State Championship on Saturday, March 3rd at Frankfort at 6:00pm against Valley Falls as the Wildcats look to qualify for State for the first time since 2010.
