Former Holton Wildcat, Lucas Lovvorn Wins NAIA Wrestling National Championship

Wrestling is in the genes of former Holton Wildcat, Lucas Lovvorn and he continues to rack up the wins on the mats no matter where he is at, laying claim to an NAIA National Championship to wrap up his latest season on the mats. 

After two years competing at the Division I level at Wyoming Lovvorn transferred back to his home State of Kansas and joined the Baker University wrestling team and automatically inserted himself as one of the top wrestling at the NAIA level in the nation. Lovvorn headed into the National tournament as the #1 seed and proved that he is the top guy at 174lbs by going 5-0 and becoming the fourth NAIA National Champion in Baker University wrestling history. 

The former Holton Wildcat went 5-0 at the National tournament earning a pinfall win in round one in 5:28, following that up with a TB-2 4-3 win and then an 8-2 decision victory in the Quarterfinals. In the Semifinals one a tight TB-1 3-2 battle and then topped his opponent in the Championship bout by a 6-2 decision to win the 174lbs NAIA title and finish the season 41-4 in his first year at Baker. Baker finished 12th as a team overall at Nationals. 

Over the course of the season Lovvorn racked up plenty of great performances for Baker winning the Heart of America Athletic Conference title at 174lbs and picking up wins against several top ranked wrestlers. 

Prior to this season at Baker Lovvorn was at Wyoming where he went 17-8 in 2015-16 season on the mats and finished fourth at the Northern Colorado Open, while in the 2016-17 season he went 17-12 competing at three different weights through the season and took fourth at the UNC Open.

In high school Lovvorn put together seasons to remember at Holton finishing his Holton wrestling career with a 4A 160lbs State title and 48-1 record his senior year. While he helped Holton wrestling win 4A team State titles in 2014 and 2013 when he won the 152lbs State title his junior year and took fourth at 138lbs as a sophomore.

Lovvorn etched himself in the record books at Baker with a spectacular season on the mats capturing the 174lbs NAIA National Championship.
