Maur Hill-Mount Academy & Atchison Boys Golfers Notch Top Performances at Horton Invite

Area golfers hit the links on Tuesday in Horton at the Chargers played host to a boys golf tournament and the top performances belonged to Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Atchison. 

Of the eight schools represented at the competition only four field full four-man teams and it was Maur Hill-Mount Academy earning the top team spot on the day with a team score of 184 winning by 25 strokes. Rossville took second (209), St. Mary's third (217) and Oskaloosa fourth (242). 

The top individual spot belonged to the lone Atchison Redmen golfer as Nathan Sowers shot a 41 to earn first place out of the 22 golfers in action at Horton on Tuesday. 

Maur Hill on their way to first place as a team had five Top 10 finishes including two of the Top four finishes on the day. Riley Funk shot a 43 to earn second place for the Ravens, while Alex Quaile shot a 47 and placed fourth. Austin Coder and Isaac Henderson each also shot rounds of 47 on the day finishing sixth and seventh, respectively, while Cole Harris placed tenth with a 48. 

Hiawatha Red Hawks lone golfer, Caden Lillie earned third place after carding a 45 on the links. 

The host Horton Chargers had a pair of Top 10 finishers on the day as Drake Waser and Cole Bottom placed fifth and eighth after both shooting 47 on the course on Tuesday.
