Sabetha Boys Golf Claim Team Title & Jeff West Golfer Takes Top Spot at St. Mary's Invite

Five area boys golf teams pulled out the clubs on Thursday competing at Rolling Meadows golf course for the St. Marys Invitational and put forth top notch performances. 

Eight schools fielded full four-man teams with three other represented in the contest and the Top four team spots belonged to area teams. Sabetha Bluejays flew to another team tournament title this season winning the St. Marys Invitational with a team score of 331 to win by 12 strokes. Jeff West earned second place as a team with a 343 score, while Frankfort took third with a 371 just two-strokes ahead of Nemaha Central who had a team score of 373. Centralia also had a team in action and shot a 430 to place sixth. 

On the way to the Top team performance Sabetha was led by four of the Top seven individual rounds on the day. Jesse Burger paced the Bluejays shooting one of the two rounds to finish under 80 as he carded a 78 to take second place. David Pierson and Garrett Scott posted rounds of 81 and 84 to take third and fourth, while Tanner Ukele with an 88 placed seventh. Carson Ukele also finished in the Top 20 placing 11th out of 52 golfers after shooting an 89. 

The top spot at the St. Marys Invitational belonged to a Jeff West Tiger as Preston Stanley shot a 75 to win the tournament. Cooper Mickens shot an 88 and earned sixth place, while Gavin Schwinn nabbed tenth place with an 89 on the day. Collin Ellis and Isaac Dickey both finished in the Top 20 also placing 12th and 14th after shooting rounds of 91 and 94. 

Frankfort Wildcat, Spencer Dressman led the Wildcats performances as she shot an 89 to place ninth. Austin Hardwick, Brandon Anderson and Branden Bussmann finished 13th, 18th and 19th, respectively with rounds of 93, 94 and 95 for Frankfort. Also Josh Tynon won the award for longest drive on the day. 

A fifth place finish led Nemaha Central as Dalton Schmelzle earned that finish with an 88 on the day. Eric Hammes and Greg Sperfslage both also earned Top 20 finishes each finishing with a round of 94 to place 15th and 16th, respectively. Sperfslage also earned the award for shot closest to the hole at the tournament. 

Centralia was led by Jeremy Penix who tied for 24th on the day with a round of 99.
