Marysville Girls & Boys Win Valley Heights Track Invite With Several Strong Performances From Area Athletes

The track season rolled along on Thursday for a few area teams as the competed against each other at the Valley Heights Invitational. 

Marysville laid claim to the top girls and boys team spots on the day of the six schools in action. The lady Bulldogs finished with 102 total points to take first as Centralia finished second, while Valley Heights took third. Nemaha Central, Axtell and Kickapoo Nation finished fourth, fifth and sixth. On the boys side Marysville totaled 132 points to take first place, while Centralia earned second and Nemaha Central placed third. Axtell, Valley Heights and Kickapoo Nation boys’ team finished fourth, fifth and sixth. 

Twelve event wins on the day led Marysville to the team titles on both sides of competition. The lady Bulldogs saw Avery Williams sweep the hurdle events winning the 100 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 16.78 and 51.88. Also on the track for Marysville girls Sydney Grauer took first in the 3200 meter run (13:29.16), while the 4x800 meter relay (11:00.70) team earned the gold. Grace Stohs continued her strong year in the pole vault by posting the winning vault of 11'00. Bulldogs boys earned six of their seven first place finishes on the track with Alex White leading the charge sprinting to times of 11.70 and 23.32 to win the 100 and 200 meter dashes. The 4x100 and 4x400 boys meter relay teams took first place behind times of 45.79 and 3:38.41, while Davis Lee won the 3200 meter run (11:15.38) and Andrew Fink ran to first in the 400 meter dash (53.03). Bryson Meinhardt added a first place finish in the long jump as he posted a leap of 19'03. 

Three multi-event winners paced the Centralia Panthers on the day at the Valley Heights Invite. Dylan Boeckman swept the hurdles notching times of 16.71 and 40.87 to win the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, while also posting a vault of 13'00 to win the pole vault. Daegan Steinlage and Madison Lueger each won a pair of throwing events for Centralia. Steinlage took first in the boy’s discus (155'03) and shot put (45'05), while Lueger won the girls javelin (135'05) and shot put (35'07). On the boys side of competition Josh Hasenkamp and Kamble Haverkamp each also won an event winning the javelin (174'04) and 800 meter run (2:09.56), respectively. The lady Panthers 4x400 meter relay team posted a time of 4:23.70 to earn first place. 

Kayla Smith led Valley Heights finishing with four first place finishes on the day as she won the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 12.67 and 26.32, and took first in the long jump and triple jump with leaps of 18'01 and 38'01.75. Sam Vermetten also won multiple events as she took first in the 400, 800 and 1600 meter runs posting times of 1:02.16, 2:35.22 and 5:37.10. Skyler Saunders posted a leap of 5'06 to win the girls high jump and the lone first place finish for the Mustang boys came by the 4x800 meter relay team (9:18.49). 

Leading Nemaha Central on the day was Isaac Haverkamp who won the boys triple jump (38'11.25) and Hannah Meyer who won the girls discus (102'06). 

Axtell Eagles were led by Blake Porting as he won the boys 1600 meter run (5:04.44) and the girl’s 4x100 meter relay (51.75) also took first place.
