Several Area Track Teams Compete at Topeka-Seaman Invite

Twenty plus schools were in attendance at the Topeka-Seaman Invite on Friday with six hailing from Northeast Kansas. 

The top team performance for the area schools belonged to the Jeff West girls who finished eighth out of 23 teams. Perry Lecompton, Jefferson County North, Hiawatha, Jackson Heights and Holton registered team finishes of tied for 15th, 18th, 19th, 20th and 23rd in the girl’s competition. In the boy’s competition Perry Lecompton, Holton, JCN and Hiawatha finished 13th, 14th, 18th and 20th out of 21 teams. 

Jeff West Tigers were led on the day by a first place finish in the girl’s triple jump (37'07) by Mariah Murdie, while she also took second in the 100 meter hurdles. Alyssa Garza added a silver medal in the discus for the lady Tigers, while Makenzie Tucker took third in the pole vault and fifth in the 800 meter run. Jordan Hawman notched a third place finish in the 400 meter dash. 

A pair of third place finishes led the Perry Lecompton Kaws as Talisa Stone and Shane Quinlan took third in the girl’s high jump and boys 400 meter dash. Haley Kellum earned a fourth place finish in the girl’s triple jump and the boys 4x100 meter relay team also took fourth, while Mykiah McDaniel placed eighth in the discus. 

Four JCN Chargers had Top eight finishes on the day as Ravyn Jobbins took sixth in the girl’s javelin, while Jacob Schrick and Kaitlyn Schneider finished seventh in the boys javelin and girls 800 meter run. Caden McAfee added an eighth place finish in the boy’s javelin. 

Hiawatha Red Hawks were led by three athletes finishing in the Top eight as Andrew Lierz took seventh in the boys long jump and Elizabeth Kettler placed seventh in the girls 1600 meter run.  Claire Geiger added an eighth place showing in the girl’s 100 meter hurdles.

Leading Holton on the day was Mason Strader who raced his way to third place in the boys 800 meter run and fifth in the 1600 meter run. Andrew Harrison added an eighth place finish in the boys discus for Holton. 

Jackson Heights was led by the performance of Abby Brey as she took fourth in the girl’s javelin.
