The 2018 high school football season is set to get underway August 31 and with the season rapidly approaching Sports in Kansas has released the top 25 running backs to watch for throughout all classes in the upcoming season.

Sabetha seniors Joe Gruber and Mason Engelken cracked the list after the duo combined to rush for over 2,000 yards and 25 touchdowns during the Bluejays state title run in 2017.

Gruber led the Bluejays in rushing last season as he compiled 1,213 yards on the ground with 13 touchdowns, while Engelken was second with 967 yards and 12 scores.

Sabetha featured one of the most prolific rushing attacks throughout the state of Kansas last season, averaging 325 yards per game on the ground with five guys over the 500-yard mark for the season.

While Engelken and Gruber are expected to be the two workhorses for Sabetha in the 2018 season, junior Gabe Garber should also have a big year after rushing for over 600 yards as a sophomore.

The Bluejays are expected to be one of the top-ranked teams in 3A heading into the start of the season, and have the pieces in place to once again have one of the top rushing attacks around with a chance to have another championship season.
