Wildcats Split Holton at Hayden Hoops
By Justin Fluke

GIRLS - Holton 47, Hayden 33                       BOYS -  Hayden 66, Holton 47

GIRLS
Coming off their fist regular season loss in five years, the Holton girls got back on track and evened their record at 1-1 with a 14 point win.  It wasn't easy as Holton trailed 6-5 after one quarter and led only 21-19 at halftime.  However, with a 26-23 advantage late in the third quarter, the Cats got a turnover and pushed the ball across half-court where Kyrstie Miller beat the buzzer with a long three-pointer.  That shot seemed to allow Holton some breathing room and confidence as they pulled away late for the win on the rivals home court.  Miller scored 9 of her 12 points in the fourth quarter while Connor Strader added 10 and Brylee New scored 9.  Hayden had 23 turnovers and dropped to 1-1 with the loss.  Holton had won 104 straight games outside of Salina until their 38-30 loss at #1 Wamego to start this season.  Now, Holton begins defense on their 7th straight undefeated Big 7 League Title as they play at Royal Valley on Friday, Dec. 7th.

BOYS
With only four practices and one game under their belt, the Holton boys could not keep up with Hayden on Tuesday night in the Capital City as the home team came out and made a pair of three-point plays (6-0 lead)  then drained four treys all in the first quarter and never looked back in route to the victory.  Hayden's hot shooting produced a 22-11 lead after one quarter and Holton never got any closer than 9 points.  It was 34-18 at halftime and Hayden led between 16 and 28 points the final two quarters before improving to 2-0.  Tanner Triggs had 23 for the winners while Andy Otting and Brogan Barry each chipped in 12.  Holton was led by sophomore guards Trey Tanking and Garrett Beecher with 11 each including a pair of trifecta's, but Trent Tanking was limited to less than 6 minutes playing his first game of the year.  Holton is now 0-2 and begins defense of their two-time Big 7 League Title on Friday at Royal Valley.
